Hi, I own a 1956 Chevy Belair, which I bought brand new in 1956. I rebuilt the engine and changed the timing gear from the paper based gear to a metal gear. The car sounds normal when I first start it but as it warms up it starts to make a sqeaking sound which comes from the timing gear cover. The question I have is, has anyone else experienced this when changing the timing gear? And could the sqeaking noise be caused be the expanding of the metal gear as the engine warms up?

Thank you SaltCoupe. Typing with computers is something that I don't do very often as I was born in 1928. My wife and I married in 1954 and we purchased our brand new 1956 Chevy in July of 1956. We took the bus here in Ste Agathe Manitoba to the Chevrolet Factory in Oshawa Ontario, where we pick up our new car and drove it home. We raised our 4 kids with that car. We now have 10 grand kids who also enjoy the car. I restored the body of the car in 1992 and rebuilt the engine lately. The interior is all original. At the time I couldn't afford to buy the car with an automatic transmission back in 1956. (Automatic transmissions were a luxury back then). So I bought the car with a straight 6, 235 cubic inch engine and a 3 speed standard transmission (3 speed on the column). I did however spend extra money back then on fender skirts which made the car look special. I only drive my car when the sun is shinning in the summer. My kids tease me a lot about that...... I hope that someone can shed some light on my timing gear issue as described in my previous post. My son helped me with this post......
Welcome from the Great State of Maine. Sounds like a lifelong love affair X2! Glad to have you with us....I do believe you will have to take timing cover off and have a look see. Did you replace seal? Did you lube it a little?
