They look like boat vents put bottom-to-bottom and then machined to fit the carbs.

If there is actually 60K tied up in that engine it is the result of a person with no knowledge of that style of engine with deep pockets who ended up at the hands of someone who figured out how to run up the tab. We have more than one guy on here who could build him a matching engine for 6K or under even with the hard to find pieces.

The bill probably looks something like this

    B engine 300.00
    custom made oil pan 500.00
    cylinder head 400.00
    custom rotating ***embly 2000.00
    Manifold and carbs 700.00
    exhaust 400.00
    machine work on block 1200.00
    ***embly of engine 1000.00
    Year long road trip to
every swap meet in US to
    find owner specified parts 54,500.00
    ___________
    Total 60,000.00

If it is indeed true I would like to nominate the owner for the idiot of the year award.

  5. I missed the details on the toilet seat but the $600 hammer turned out to be a poor decision on allocating management costs. Picture buying one hammer and one M1 tank on the same purchase order. Take the total management for the purchase order and allocate it across the two items on the purchase order. All of a sudden hammers get very expensive. On the other hand he may have built a new garage to use to rebuild the engine. It is amazing what an accountant can do (sometimes good, sometimes bad). I would sure like to see the details. The devil is in the details.

I have gotten a whole lot more for a whole lot less, and thats a high dollar aluminum race motor. I could build two of my dream hot rods for that.

If it's spinning a ***anium crank and rods, it wouldn't cost that much. No way there is $60K in that engine.

For the history buffs a TWIN CAM 16 valve McDowell head with a gear drive cost $575.00 back in the day. I have the paperwork to prove it, sure would like to know were $60,000 is hidden in the OP engine. Bob

there's either one too many zeros or this is only one of 10 engines built for that dollar amount.

Why would someone go to all the trouble to build an old banger? Those who do apreciate the vintage look, sound and challenge, including me, of doing it. If this is the case here then why the ugly oil pan, alt, radials and 1 800 tube axle and hair pins etc, never mind the shabby apearance of it and the car.....this has to be a gag:cool::confused:

I understood Creel's one off SOHC Bonneville record holder cost 25K. It's really fast. But I still thought it would be way out of my range.

I still don't see $ 60,000.00. Aside from a lot of machine work there are really not a lot of exotic (hence expensive) parts listed there.

And so is the original post, and the one
that details exactly what was in the motor.

Didn't youse guys read the build cheet? chebby pistons & those seat covers are 2007/08 heh heh he:D

  21. Then please next time add a little more info like this and maybe the thread wont get **** canned. It left a lot to be interpreted and with a subject matter such 60K being spent on a Model A banger, you are bound to get the comments you did.

  22. well, all you posted was that the engine cost 60k. What did the guy get for 60k? specs would be great. how much power did it put out? what does the head combustion chamber look like? any interesting rengineering of the ports? why did he choose SU's, come on...don't get pissed, just don't expect a board full of craftsmen to swoon over a price tag.

  23. Hate to say this, but your OP came across as a BIG boast (with little real information), expecting everyone to "ooh and ahh" and now your unhappy with the outcome and pulling pics?

Sounds like you just need to take your ball and go home.

Dude, c'mon. You barely wrote anything but the exorbitant price tag. Still, even with your edit, you add extraneous info. There was never a mention on Don, etc. We're not mind readers, you know!

Us banger guys eat this stuff up, and, of course we're interested. Don't hold anything against the four pages of posts, since there were no supporting details.

Wow! Post something traditional that has a lot of racing history with Don Milodon and all you get are 4 pages of negative comments. It's not everyday that people get to see this car or the fabulous one of a kind motor that took years to build only to never see run (he died before it ran).

What the OP has to realize is that this forum is made up of a lot of guys who have done it all in the hot rod world and who are not easily impressed when someone posts what looks like a pretty tame four banger and then claims it was built for a humungus amount of money. You posted very vague info, said there was verification and do***entation, which we never saw except for that write up, and then expect oohs and aahs.

We just called it the way we saw it.
