I am thinking about a leather interior in my 32 roadster and could buy some distressed leather hides... NOW: how many sqft do I need for the side / kick panels and a bench seat - "LeBaron Bonney" style? thanks for your help!!
Best leather interior I've seen was a member here had made from an old distressed leather couch he got for free on Craigslist.
I did my 32 roadsters' bench, door panels, kick panels and a firewall panel out of two hides of around 50 Sq Feet each. if you arent fussy about nicks and blemishes, you could get away with smaller hides, but Ive only got about five SQ feet left of offcuts that the upholsterer gave back to me..
When I asked about leather at the Upholsterer when doing my 55 Chrysler, the salesman said, "excuse me but you dont look like a leather guy" I took it as a complement! I got vinyl.
Thats what I did in my T coupe. Amount of leather needed- one 96" long sofa. Total cost of interior... $200.00 (aluminum panels, glue, carpet, etc.)
I used 2 skins on my model A from Bob Rich in Savannah GA http://www.4hides.com/Welcome.html Keep in mind there is a roll & Pleat panel behind the backrest as well
On the roadsters I've done I usually buy 3 because I do something in the trunk and with 2 there isn't enough. Of course that depends on the size of the hide??
thanks for this explanation: a hide is around 48 sqft...more or less. so we're talking about 150 sqft to be on the save side?
I bought a 55 sq. ft. hide to do just the seat (tuck n roll) in my Roadster and there won't be much left over. Like others have said, two full hides should do seat, door panels, and kick panels. ..Or three hides if your doing some trunk panels. Malcolm
fonti, 3 hides are over kill for a 32 roadster, ask your supplier if they have "parners" this is vinyl that is a match for the leather and works for seat facing , trunks, door panels and carpet binding.........
