Since my wife has lots going on this weekend, it's going to primarily be me and my son, who is about 15 months old. He walks on his own but in a situation like a convention or, in this case, the roadster show, I'd be carrying him mostly or in his stroller. How hard is it to do that show with a situation like this? How rough is parking, swap meet navigation, etc? I've never been to this show, so I'm just wondering if it'll be a nightmare and should perhaps avoid it.

Take (sneak in?) your own drinking water in the stroller. There isn't a single drinking fountain in the place that I know of, and bottled water costs the same as beer, (I think)
A stroller shouldn't be any more trouble than all the swap meet Radio flyer wagons that are always there.
I rode around the place on a Razor scooter one year.
You will walk probably 5 or more miles to see it all.

GOOD advice.....heck, he might even need some VITAMIN WATER, too! wink wink nudge nudge...ahh, just like going to the movies! ;)

Burbank isn't what it was even 10 years ago when I lived here last. We just had a guy and his family buy the house next to us....the banks must be relaxing their loan standards again, just like hicks or inner-city cretons winning the lotto....move in, tear the place up, and make our nice neighborhood trashy. Sorry...don't mean to get on my soap box.

  5. Should mention that there is almost NO shade to be had so be ready to be out in whatever the weatherman has in store for the weekend. But, if you are prepared, you'll have a great time - no doubt about it!

I think you would be best advised to leave your son with grandma or auntie Sue. The show is very, very large. If you are thinking show and swap it will be a two day deal. Difficult at best to take in and absorb everything you want in a single afternoon.

Actually the show, if you know someone, is four days. Move into power parking on Thurs., wander swap early Friday, fight crowds on Sat and move your car from not good parking to more visable parking when the old guys go to the free food and 1/2 day Sunday to wait for your mug and try to leave.

Since he's too young to enjoy it, you'd be best off to got it alone.
The weather looks like it will be nice...it's 76 here today next to Pasadena, 25 minutes west of the fairgrounds.
If this is your first LARS, go, get the lay of the land and when he's older, you'll know the ropes.
There's tons to see, so there's tons of walking.
You and the little guy would probably be better off split up for the day.
if he was older, then, by all means, I'd take him...but, he's a little dude, so maybe some other time....

I agree with those that say see if you can get someone to sit him. It is 85° today in Pomona (they only forecasted 78) and you're going to be on Black Top with no real shade available. I reckon Saturday and Sunday will be at least as hot. You will both have a better day if you fly solo on this one!

Maybe taking him along for an event where you would be there for a couple of hours would work but that's a lot to put a little guy through for a whole day. I'd spring for a baby sitter and figure that it was the cost of keeping you and your son happy. Then take him to a cruise night or other event where you will only be there for a couple of hours and see how the both of you do.

Yeah, it was probably naive of me to figure I'd get there at 7 and cut out by noon. I kinda just wanted to go to see what all the hub-bub was...not really scour the place. Dunno how good of a deals you can find in the swap meet...seems like deals are few and far between nowadays.

Take him. Its easier when they are still small enough to be in a stroller. I used to take an umbrella strohller and a backpack stuffed full of ****. I have five sons and they have grown up going to shows with me.
And no they dont touch the cars cause i would whip their ***es.

Having raised for kids....forget it, you will be miserable , on edge...kid in the sun etc. part of having kids is forfeiting some activities we used to do. Just hang out somewhere nice in the shade and make a day out of something baby friendly.

To start off, I don't have kids, but I have friends with kids and they have managed the show. And here is the But, starting last year the Fair board forced the LA Roadsters to redo the layout of the show and it ****s. The spread between the Swap and the Roadster is greater, think along the lines of the Pomona Swap Meet but streached out into a single line, check the Roadster web site. Your best best is to have a friend(s) with a swap space where you can at least 'borrow' some shade.
We will be there with the preview/presale of the new Bonneville, sorry for the plug, Calendar.

Remember, along with what I already said, this is a HUGE show. The swap meet alone can take all day, and yes there are still a lot of really good deals, if you know how to haggle. Then there is the vendor area, which will take another hour or two, and there is some great stuff to see there as well. Then if you legs aren't ready to fall off, there are the 800 or so roadsters to gander at.

Thanks for all the well read comments guys!
As a member of LAR since 1971, & now just an Honorary Member, each input helps make the annual LAR show become a better one each year.
Few people realize that once the show is over, it starts to form the following years activity in the coming months of planning.
Lately the Fairplex has been doing lots of changes, some which are not in the LAR's benefit. So, once the contract is signed with the Fairplex for the next years event, they do their own thing in re-arranging things for their use.
As outsiders, none of you can realize the work involved to produce a show & swap of this magnitude,---& thats understandable, keeping in mind that we have come a long way since the 1961 Hollywood Bowl parking lot facility, & Great Western livestock all a 1 day show, open at 6am for swappers & registering roadsters (open cars), until 4 pm made a long, long, long day.
When we moved the LAR show & swap to L.A.County Fairgrounds in 1980, the big improvement was going to a 2 day event & the vendors loved it!!
Also keeping in mind that us old greybeards are not as young as we were back then, & in today's mode its really a chore getting everything set up & in place for your viewing pleasure---And swapping pleasure too.---As far as young children---Thats your decision!!----Don
