I ´ve spent this Sunday in my garage building my 327 sbc. When I assembled the oil rings I thought about whether the white and red plastic cubes on each oil ring should be removed or not before installing the pistons into the block. What do you think?? I´ve seen both... [IMG]

there is nothing that says they need to come out. i leave them in. you would probably damage the ring while trying to rip them out.

I also haven´t found anything on the data sheet that says that they should be removed before installation. I´ve already put them in the block, please don´t say now that they do have to be removed [IMG] [IMG]

Actually, those tell you the condition of the rings. If they are both clear, they're nice and fresh - go ahead and put 'em in. If they start to turn red, that means they've reache the expiration date and need to be thrown away! [IMG] [IMG]

I've never seen anything like those before. Can someone enlighten me as to what they're all about? [IMG]

They're to make sure the ends of the ring spacer don't overlap-the white and red plastic things butt against each other, when you see 'em side by side it's right. I worked in an automotive machine shop,we always left 'em in-no problems!

  16. they will burn off at exactly 8500 RPM'S......[after about 100 quarter mile runs]. [IMG]
