Projects on the bandwagon Heyitsnate's 36 5w build

]Been a while since an update... worked on the passenger side cowl patch panel. I made a seperate thread about these cowl patches here's the results.


Still a couple of spots to fine tune by the a-pillar.
There was a funky lip on my firewall that was bugging me so i made another patch and put it in.

Started bolting the front clip together to check my seams on the cowl patch panels. Also made plexi templates of the subrails,cut them out then made them in steel and test fit them on goodgarbs frame. My plan is to build the subrails on another frame (mines twisted in the back)and with the front fenders and running boards attached to it (new frame) i can cut the floors and rockers from the braced body and lower it on and have a good reference to attach it. (From the b-pillars back im leaving old subs and floors intact)
That probably made no sense.

 

Fuck me dude, that plastic idea is killer, mad genius like.

I applaude the fact that you fall back on "Science and Mechanics" when the going gets tough. There is entirely too little science and mechanics in todays society....

Not too much this week. Cleaned the shop a lot, worked on some of my tools. My flathead lives on the floor, while we have a ton of these "universal" engine stands so i made some flatty friendly adjustments.

I got a nice straight frame and i had some x member templates, so i got the ball rolling on those.

 

I also located the perfect set of heads for the 48 flathead im using. The block has a 4" crank,clay smith 5t cam, .60 over, relieved with adj. Lifters.

 

You lived in SF back when you joined the HAMB. You built a cool chevy truck/cab. Your latest is some great metal work and ideas.

Look'n good...I like that plate you made for an unsplit wishbone. Great idea.

 

Making all the x member brackets

 

This is where stuff got tricky. I asked titus how he did his roadster subrails and he helped out a bunch. I basically did the same thing with some tweaks. I made the top pieces, bolted them to the frame, then bent some 1/2" tubing to follow the curve and have the bead inside the door straight across the opening as opposed to following the frame. Then i notched the top subrail and tacked the tubing in the recess i cut.once that was done i traced the subrail sides i cut earlier onto the side of the tubing and cut along the line and also the backside of the subrail..WHEW! Finally i welded the sides on. Not really a stock replica, more like a nod to the og design.



Still have to make some caps for the ends of the beads on the lathe and misc little things but its getting closer. lve been splitting my time between suspension stuff, working on the motor and trans, and metalwork .im just a few steps from a full roller with drivetrain.
