Folks Of Interest I am heartbroken, dissapointed cuz of scrappers.

  1. Sooo not my point.

    But we can discuss yours.
Personally, if I decide to sell something I price it to sell because I have made a decision to sell it. See how simple that is, it almost sounds stupid. No offer needs to be accepted the price is what it is. I would ***ume he would have sold it for 15-30% more than he got.

There are "price makers" and "price takers" in any market place. Mr Blazer owner tried his hand at "price maker" and the market showed him he was not in reality and actually that he was a "price taker" and at 240.00 a ton. Did he say "no no I want 480.00 a ton " and ****er down? Maybe but down to 240.00.

Unrealistic Swap meet and flee market vendors start out being "price makers" but leave there either one of two ways, as "price takers" or fully loaded.

  2. When my brother and I were heavy into it we would go look at cars with the trailer on the truck and a roll of bills in our pockets. People change their minds a lot, don't give them the chance.

Iwannaflattie says he and his uncle get along and that his uncle and the s****per are buddies. IF I really wanted the truck, I think I would be camped out on "Unk"s doorstep until I got to talk to him. He might retrieve the truck before it crosses the scales.

And, to kind of drift off topic, I think s**** price pretty well sets the low dollar on buying a project. You really shouldn't count on someone selling it to you cheaper "To save it from the crusher". If they had any feelings or attachment to the car, it wouldn't be headed for the crusher in the first place.

"They were using a "loader" tractor to get them on the flat bed".

Loader and flat bed sounds like a full time s****per rather than a casual part timer with a pickup trying to make a few extra bucks.

If you know of any old cars/trucks in your area that you've wanted to make an offer on, you better jump. These guys are working your area and will have everything within 50 miles picked clean in no time.

I knew a guy who's family had lived on the same farm for around a 100 years, so one day a s****per comes along and from the road he see's the fence row full of old trucks, equipment, etc. He drives up and ask's if he can s**** the stuff. The farmer walked out there with him and clearly pointed out what he wanted s****ped, the guy made him an offer on the s****, paid him and the farmer left. The farmer went out the next day and the s****per took everything that weighted more than a tin can. And from that day on NO s****per is allowed on that property. But all the goodies are already gone.

  6. I was at my favorite s**** yard a few years ago as prices were spiking up over $300'ton and saw '58 Caddy coming off the scales. I raced up to the office to get the owner to set is aside for me and by the time I got up to the register window the yard guys had already scewered the old girl with the fork lift and were headed to the tin pile. I wound up buying it anyway for 150% of what the yard paid and trippled my money just in e-bay parts. Still got a running 365 and trans to go in a roadster project. Stay vigilant!

The only person you should be disappointed in is you (for waiting too long and playing keyboard warrior when you got home) and your Uncle (for not sticking to the deal you two had). Not the s****per. $$$$ talks and bs walks.

I love how every thread turns into a ******* match. Regardless, I feel your pain IWANAFLATTIE. My dad is setting on a bunch of awesome rare cars in original condition and constantly has guys knocking on the door. I started giving him little bits of cash on everything like some kind of lay-a-way program. I remind him that if he sells it he has to give me my deposit back. He is tight with his money so the thought of having to pay me back keeps things locked down.

    Love the COE.

if he is your uncles friend why did he steal from him, all bets are off, go to the yard and get it back before it gets crushed, time is of the essence if you want the truck, there is a chance its not crushed yet

Always keep a hundred dollar bill folded up and tucked away neatly in your wallet, just in case some wild deal pops up out of the blue. It will rarely be enough to complete the deal, but it does a wonderful job of saying "I'm serious."
