    WELL,
heres a chance for you photo shop gods!

im haveing a hard time with color combos and such for the front of my new shop i want to keep it really traditional / 50's hot rod feel to it, so acheiving it from the front is a major thing. run wild with it fellas and help me get this problem solved, ..... and yes there will be of course a H.A.M.B.
member discount always and forever at the new store! thanks for all the help guys!

p.s. that mini-mobile container in the front right of the picture is only there during construction,...it wont stay there so lets drop it out of the pic's there's windows behind it

I had thought about doing the top (part that is blue now) in black, with the lower part (area that is tan now) in a "commercial" light gray, and the two being split by a 6" red belt line, but then i didnt think that was good enough, thats why i wanna let the photo shop guys show me some great ideas, ....hey then down the road they can say, "yeah i designed that".... maybe it'll get them some strange!:D

Check the book Dry Lakes and Drag Strips by Dean Batchleor. It has some great old pics of the early speed shops and garages.

That arch would look great covered in 3 inched of 'flake with striping.:D

Are you gonna keep the roller skating part in there? You should do some investigating and see what color it was way back when it was a dealership. I looked at buying that building about 5 years ago, but the apartments next to it made me nervous.

it was a skate boarding shop previous to me, and NO im not saving any of it..lol..i dont have enough space as it is. its all empty now.

i tried to find out what it was painted like when it was beaudry chevrolet in the 40's but i couldnt find anything on it. i have a copy of the original blue prints and approved permits from back there (just figured it would be cool to hang in my office)

if you look at the "what did you get done this weekend" post there are some interior shots of it (just did some painting this weekend)

but wait till you see the hotrod/johnny cash mural we are gonna do on the north wall , it will be the sh*t!

You could possibly check with the Tucson historical society for pictures. Somebody has to have something about it. I remember being in it and it was very cool. Unless something has changed it seemed like parking was a problem. Good luck to you, Tucson is a tough town to do buisness.

i tried the historical society too with no luck, im sure there is someone out there with info on it, maybe the beaudry family themselves???? parking has been solved.
your right tucson is a hard town, but the traditional rod and rat scene is better than what i have seen in phx, and if all else fails i have 2 other biz' to fall back on that keep me comfortable.
but i think this is just the thing tucson has been needing, it will be fun, it will be stressfull, it will make me wanna pull my hair out...but it will always be about the cars... and that my friend makes it worth it!

Beaudry Motor Co. is still family owned. I bet if you contacted them, with some pursuasionand patience, I bet somebody there could dig up some old photos or some information as to what the place used to look like. It'd be cool for some of the old timers to cruise by the shop and see it done up the way they remember it.

Yeah, after lookin at it, it reminds me of California Speedway. Colors, pattern, and even the arch. There's probably a subconscious reason why I did that. Here's another. A vintage g*** pump would look great in front of this building. It's rather large for a gas station, but I think you could pull it off.

thatll confuse some people, i guarentee it...youll have all kinds of people pulling up trying to use those pumps...you just gotta hire someone to stand outside and laugh at them when they do

  16. Your trying to attempt what I did when I moved into my location. My building was built in 1935. I wanted to keep the old timey 'feel'.

  21. Can you post a better picture? Maybe one that's cropped to the building itself and shows some of the detail? How about one when the sun isn't directly overhead?

I'm not a Photo Shop anything. An old guy with a partial memory, I am. Chevrolet of the '50s used a two-tone blue and gold color scheme. The Courtsey Chevrolet sign at 12th St. and Camelback in Phoenix is the right colors. It's been there forever. I'll try to get a picture when I go to Phoenix later this week and email it to you.

I grew up in Tucson off and on in the '50s and '60s so I remember some of the old town. If you can find some pictures of the old O'Reilly Chevrolet at 22nd St. and Park (southeast corner) may give you some ideas. That building is long gone now; but, the O'Reilly dealership on East Broadway may have some old pictures of the 22nd St. building.

I don't know what the Tucson sign ordinance is like and if they allow neon lights. Neon outside signs would help give the right look to your shop. I'm sure with the popularity of neon now, you could find someone to design the sign for you. I have no idea on cost.

I can't place where your shop is located from the picture you posted. What's the address so I can drop by when I'm in Tucson visiting my daughter.

I hope this helps with ideas.

    cougar dan,

its hard for me to get a better pic, AZ sun aint nothing nice and where its located it gets total sun coverage from sun up to sun down. it is also hard because the canopy out front shades it down alot, i will try to get another pic of it later today when it is not so bright so if that helps.

i was supposed to be down there all day doing dry wall, but instead im am fighting with "the grease monkey" oil place, they sicked their corporate attourney after my corporate attourney about my name, and although arizona gave me the corp status a long time ago, it only matter now because i can fit all of the local chain "oil stops" in my shop with still room to boot....so there may be a name change..lol...at the most a "DBA...."

BUT ALL THE HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED GUYS if you can work with the pic i have up now that would be great, if not i will get another one up asap

I know where that is located. I have been by that address many times in years past. Not lately though. Is that the current address or the location of your new building? Don't mind me, I confuse easily. I'm over educated.
