I took my '52 chev styleline deluxe 4 door out of winter storage and had struggles with the clutch. Turns out that the clutch plate rusted to the fly wheel, thankfully the experts here on the HAMB had already posted how to fix that, THANKS!! Now, I'm having trouble with the three speed, I have to strong arm the thing to get it to shift, if feels like the linkage is binding up. I went through the steps in the shop manual to check clearances, check the alignment. I also adjusted the shifter gates to ensure proper alignment while in neutral. I rebuilt the control rod connection point for both 1st/reverse, and 2/3rd with new bushings and spacers, etc. While it was apart I could easily shift by hand under the good which leads me to believe the problem is not in the transmission. When I put it back together it was a little easier to shift initially but after a short cruise it got tighter until I was strong arming it back into gear. I think the problem is between the shift lever housing under the hood and the shift lever on the column. Not sure what to do next, I'd like to keep the three on the tree but if no one has any advice, I'll probably put a floor shift conversion kit in it. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
werr can you get thefloor shift conversion kits at????? having trouble shifting on my 1950 chevy......
I ended up purchasing one and got it from "National Chevy ***ociation". It's not the greatest shifter but it works and comes with everything you need including instructions. I picked it up for $170 and they shipped it very fast.
