Customs Another Shoebox nearing completion

Nope - unfortunately not mine . This one belongs to my friend Craig (HAMB'er "Legend544") , who's more of a HAMB lurker (i.e. computer-challenged ) . We've put a couple years into this ride , and I've posted a few pics of it before , but we're getting close now so it's time for more pics !

A little background for ya , best as I can recall - It's a '50 sedan that we put a 351W / C4 into , with a Lokar Nostsalgis shifter , custom driveshaft & stock shoebox rear . It's dropped with Aerostar springs up front and dropped springs out back . It has a louvered hood (not on yet) that is peaked , the rear fenders are smoothed , shaved door handles and the trunk is shaved and has hidden hinges . The interior that will be installed was saved from an old custom '51 ride built back in the day . We installed a new Cen-Tech wiring harness as well . A few weeks ago , we gave it a squirt of some color , and installed the rear bumper , the Foxcraft Merc skirts and the modified '54 Olds side trim . Tomorrow evening if all goes well we should be installing the front bumper & starting on the interior . Once that's done , it's off to the exhaust shop for some pipes & it's on the road ! Very cool, almost done. The fun part. Skirts really makes the car pop and i like the over riders on the rear bumper. He must be getting excited.

 

Sweeeet! Do you know what the paint color is called! Im build a 53 ford and I like that color!

Thanks for the comments on my box,it has been a long time coming,I have to give a big thanks to buddy polumbo(Al).The paint is a 1951 ford f1 truck color I had mixed up in a epoxy primer.I can get you the exact code if you want,let me know.The rear overrider is a 50 to 54 chevy (not sure).Up soon-lace painting on the roof

 

Well , the car kicked our ***es the other night and we got just about nothing accomplished . Better luck next time , I guess , lol !! The biggest pain in the *** was some front bumper fitment issues . The 51 bumper brackets didn't seem to want to fit the 51 bumper ... go figure ! The remote trunk release cable ***embly (brand new) decided to break , so we had to fix that (no small feat) . A part for his antenna decided to go missing (WTF ?) , so that didn't get installed . We did manage to get his door latches installed & adjusted and we got his windshield wiper ***embly re-installed , so it wasn't a total loss . After all the setbacks , we decided enough was enough for the night .

wow! cars looking good. really has come a long way from when he got it. glad to see he's just about roadworthy. hopefully this means yours is not far behind. keep the pictures coming.

 

nice ride. sure that bumper brackets were correct year for bumper? is grill surround from '53 Chevy too?

 

If you are trying to use '50 Ford bumper brackets on a '51 bumper, it won't work.
Some bumper brackets had two holes and some had 3.

 

The grill surround is a 51 ford car with the 2 pieces welded together and pieces fabbed to extend down to the valance panel.Then I ground it down and did putty work and then painted it chrome(got to save money to get it REAL chrome done).Dont know whats up with the front bumper brackets,there 51s as are the bumpers.maybe difference in early &late 51 parts?

 

Does that shoebox have a mullet?

 

Did a Tbird crash into the roof? I'm sorry but that thing on the roof just kills the **** out of that fine car...for me.

the scoop on the roof isn't as bad as a lot of stuff that was done back in the "day".... it's interesting. i have most of my '51's grille surround pieces and i might do the same trick with them to get it done! need some interior pics of the saved interior, please.

I guess I'll answer for him - He was trying to do something a bit different than the usual Impala scoop that's been done on so many Shoeboxes - I think he pulled it off OK . Different , yet the same . If that makes any sense .

Thanks . Craig's really proud of the car , and it will be pushed into nearly daily use when done . He's been driving the heck out of his '59 GMC truck all summer , so this will lighten the load on it a bit , lol !

I'll shoot some interior pics the next time I'm over . It looks pretty cool in the car . We must make some carpets over the winter , but that's not a big job .

 

I've got an update on Craig's Shoebox for you guys . I finally got some pics uploaded , so here they are .

We also laced the roof in a 2 panel design . The pics were shot after we sprayed the lace , but ya get the idea :







We decided to re-think the radiator setup , so this past week , we installed a different rad setup . We installed a Fox-body Mustang rad - it fits well and should be more than enough to cool the 351 . My Shoebox will get the same setup . Pics are in my Shoebox build thread (link below) .

 

why the hell ain't he driving that yet?

 

To be honest , he wants to be finished with it before he rolls it out for good . He's afraid once he starts driving it , he'll never get around to finishing it ... and I agree with him , LOL !!
