Is there a special tool to do this or maybe a better way? I want to make sure this is a good engine before buying new parts for it and finding out it's locked up later. I've never worked on a Ford flathead before, so this is new to me. It's a 47 straight 6

A stock Ford hand crank will turn that one over.

Thanks. Any idea where I can find a hand crank?

I would think that there is a bolt inside it that you can put a socket on and crank it over with a ratchet, or use a prybar on the flywheel bolts.

If you still need a crank, and you can't find someone with a Ford crank. I would talk to someone with antique tractors, as that looks very similar to what is used on many 50's and older tractors.

  5. Put a bar in it and turn it! If it's gonna turn over it will move easy. If it doesn't, well you figure it out.
