EZ wirring harness (all black) have the oppurtunity to score one

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56 ford custom, Jun 15, 2012.

  1. All black is a pain in the ass to build and trouble shoot not IF but WHEN you need too. Putting your wires in wrapping looks better than all black wires running everywhere.

I used one. It was a good harness... it had been partially installed and spliced so it was a bit of a pain tracing wire because it would be labled (as you went along... Brake light//alternator//fan//cigar.... But it was good and woked well. I just used a couloured one and it was easier to use.

How much wiring do you need? California Import offers one for VW based dune buggies.. simple basics and only abouyt $30 or $40 when I bought the last one. Nice simple harness if you are building a basic car.

All black's a real pain in the ass. The labels are tough to read when lying upside down looking up at the dash harness while trouble shooting. Seems the label is never really where you need it to be. Also, I've seen some really nice stuff from a member on the HAMB here called Rebel Wire.

  9. I put an EZ-Wire harness in my '58 Apache in 2003 and when I hooked up the battery the horn went crazy. I pulled the battery wire and started tracing the horn circuit which was hooked up backwards. Press the horn ring and the horn quit honking.

I called their tech number and the guy said "yeah, we have had that happen before", just change the wiring to fix the problem. I am pulling the harness out and replacing it with one from hotrodwires.com later this fall. The EZ-wire harness has been glitchy from day one, currently the headlights only work when the ignition is turned on. I haven't made any alterations, it just started doing that. I have had to repair several connections where the crimps failed over the years.

When it comes out I am going to scrap the copper out of it because I could not pass the harness to anyone in good conscience. I would buy from about anyone other than them after the issues I have experienced with their kit.

If you actually read the original post it is pretty clear that he asked if EZ was worth a damn. The question of black / color wiring drifted from the original topic.

  13. Would that be shipped?

Every year it seems harder to see the correct color wires under the dash, the last thing I need is a black wiring harness.

  17. Exactly! Thanks

17.00 s& h weve put ez wiring kits in all our cars we build , ive insatlled painless kits as well when i worked at the hot rod shop , the ezwiring is basicly the same kit for less than half the $ . a wiring kit is ONLY as good as the person who installs it , your not DONE untill EVERY thing works like it should period regaurdless of what kit yer using.

I have used EZ Wiring kits in all my cars (Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Pont,)and the ones I build for others. I have never had any problems with there product. Very easy to install and all wires marked every 6-8 inches.
(note some cars do require different ways to make items work from original wiring ie: dome lights, Horn.) Painless, Rebel,Ron Francis all require the same thing. I don't sell EZ I just like using a good product.... Just my .02 cent

  20. The car is in New Zealand (right hand drive) that is the start solenoid situated close to the ignition switch.

I've installed plenty of wiring harnesses in my years , and I can tell you that an all-black wiring harness is a major pain in the ass . Yes , it's marked every foot or so , but all of that goes out the damn window as soon as you set that wire down to "quick" look for another wire - then it's a sea of black wire again ! Multi-color wire harnesses are definately the way to go ... hands down . Seeing the colors when finished shouldn't be an issue once you wrap the harness . It's WELL worth having a multi-color harness kit for the ease of install , if nothin' else . I've done enough wiring harness installs to know . The job's tough (nerve-wracking) enough ... why make it harder ?!?!

Does anyone know how many colors wire insulation comes in? Would it be possable to wire a car and never have two wires that are the same color? Bob

  23. There's black and black with white or red stripe.

    There's blue
    Bl
    Lt bl.
    D bl
    Then blues with stripes
    Bl /wht
    Bl/org
    Bl/blk.

    few Browns

    There's a few grays

    Then there's green.
    Grn
    Lt Grn
    D grn
    Then stripes on greens

Orange and Orange with black stripe.

    Pink and pnk/b lack stripe.

Purple and purple with white stripe

Red and red w black or white stripe.

    Tan and tan w white

White and white w black Or red stripe.

Yellow and yellow w black stripe

there's a few of balls too and some I forgot - how many is that ?

You could wire a hotrod and not use the same color combo wire twice, but some things should be the same colors.

Thanks 31Vicky, wireing is many years down the road, but it is nice to know it would be possable to run a wire from a to b and now what it was. Do the above mentioned kits have enough different colors to do this? Bob

  25. Have you installed the all black wire harnesses before? If so how did you like it?

You know, depending on what you are building, an old timer once told me a Chevette was awesome for a donor car.. Fuel tank fits in many early fords, and you can remove the wiring harnes in about n hour. I know it's not old school, but if you need a wiring harness... besides you can say your rod is full of 'vette parts.

I used an EZ-Wire kit several years ago. I wanted it all black to help hide the hide the wires (A Tudor highboy), and it worked perfectly.

Great kit, NO PROBLEMS, and I would use all-black again. I chased the wires a few times after installation and never had an issue finding stuff. Granted, my eye sight isn't as good as it used to be, but I blame not seeing on me, not the kit.

That said, support your local HAMB advertisers and members! :) Right Alex?

  28. Thats exactly what I want. The wires not to be that visible. I cant see why it would be soo hard to wire a car with all black wires. I mean they are all marked and labeled

I plan on welding in electrical conduit inside the frame rails so you will never see wire, and if it burns it won't wreck the paint work, I hope. Bob
