Old post, but I finally solved it. I had a later post dealing with the a badly leaking holley, which was from this car. I was going to rebuild it, but after I pulled it off, the throttle shafts seemed pretty work, and I didn't want to do a rebuild and have the same problem, so I just called The Carburetor Exchange in El Monte, CA, and they sent me the same model carb completely rebuilt with a lifetime guarantee for $189. Got it a few days, bolted it on, fired up the Galaxie, and haven't had a problem since.

I've rebuilt carbs successfully before, but I've also rebuilt them and had the car still run poorly, so I just went for the rebuild this time.

Now I can actually drive the damn thing.

Sounds like you solved your problem, But if you have anymore problems like that especially on a hot day you might consider adding a lower pressure electric fuel pump. My 63.5 432 stroker FE does the same thing when it sets after a hot shut down, The Ethanol fuel just boils out of the carb. I just turn the key on and let the electric pump run a little bit then pump the accel one time and it fires right up. Just what works for me.:)

Bullet - I drove it some more, and had ONE instance where it cranked for maybe 3 seconds, but as soon as I mashed the gas to the floor, it fired right up. NOWHERE near as long as before, so I'm not the least bit worried. It was so bad before that if I drove the car for a few short back to back trips, the battery would go dead because I had to crank it for so long after a hot stop.

So freakin' happy that this problem is solved...now I can actually drive the damn thing without worrying if I'll be stuck in east Bum**** with a dead battery from so much cranking.
