First, let me say that I am rarely starstruck, but just a short while ago, we were packing up, getting ready to leave Beech Bend Park after the Hot Rod Reunion. Bob K and his friend Doug were knocking down their EZ-ups, I was putting up our chairs and a gentleman walks up and starts talking with me about our Caddy. I spoke with him and he asked about the engine, so we opened the hood. He was complimentary and interested as he pointed out several features of the engine bay, and went on to tell me about a '66 Riv he has and is going to do in a similar fashion as we have done our car. I asked him who he was and he said he was Bob Muravez, Floyd Lippencotte Jr., "I used to drive the Freight Train." That kinda startled me for a second and I instantly knew I was in the presence of a celebrity, and that Bob and Doug would want to talk with him also, so I called them over, along with our wives, and he proceeded to tell us a few stories of how it all began for him. What a pleasant guy and a great story he shared with us. Thank you Mr. Muravez for sharing your time with us. It is a cherished memory for me.
Wow. That's way too cool.. It's not often you run into someone who participated in the old days and has as much history as Bob has.
I thought you were talking about meeting me for a minute Ken - hahaha. Was good to hang with you guys for a bit today.
Its always cool to meet a god from your youth. Some years ago at El Mirage I got to meet Kong Jackson. I considered myself very lucky as he p***ed away a few months later. Cool guy with great stories and one liners. I saw the Frieght Train many times as a kid. Always loved the "Floyd Lippencot Jr." monicker.
