I was at u pull it last weekend and can't believe all the old cars in there!!! I spent the day stripping a 50 Buick torpedo back. It had really solid fenders and hood!!! One fender is smashed a little, but its nothing that can't be straightened! I got the fenders, hood, bumper, grill, dash, some stainless, and a few other parts!!! The ford truck still had the flathead in it!!! Here are some pictures!!!

That 41 ford truck is a " heavy " a 1.5 ton which if that's the orignal flathead it should be a 239 Truck motor - Very similar to the merc 99a - mine even had a factory relief job! If it's not locked up you should have picked it up to!

It's still there, but I didn't check to see if the engine was locked up or not!!! They get $300 for an engine. Is that to much if its not locked up?

Does anyone know if the doors on 41 ford 1.5 ton truck are the same as a 1/2 ton 41?

Which hinge? Are the vent windows hard to get off the falcon?

The wire wheels on the Buick are Cragar Star Wires. I believe they are also unilug 4.5/4.75. Discontinued until recently, on backorder since then. IF THEY HAVE THE CENTERS THAT STICK OUT BEYOND THE RIM, they are HUGE with the lowrider/"urban" crowd. They were offered as an option on '84/85 Eldorados, but rarely chosen. As a result they fetch a pretty good dollar on certain auction sites if listed right. Even regular Star Wires can go as high as $800-1000 depending on condition. Being a U-Pull-It I can only assume they have a set pricing schedule? Steel wheels are usually cheap as Hell from those places, which means you could flip those bad boys and have a bunch in your pocket for more parts. If they weren't 1500 miles from where I'm sitting my ass would already be in the van... Use the info above however you see fit.

MINIMUM... $150/wheel if you clean them up with a little fine steel wool and some Mother's and they still show some rust spots. MINIMUM. In decent condition, $225-250 each. Watched a set of '84 poke spokes sell for 2k on LayItLow.com. As ridiculous as I think that shit is, I'm all about finding a dollar here or there.

Also, when you come across old Buicks and whatnot, check out the parking brake handles. A lot of them were chrome, a lot of them were semi-ornate, and because of where they're located in the car they haven't been rained on even with a broken windshield. They're usually cheap out of a salvage yard, easy to remove, they're easy to disassemble and refinish, and they can usually be retrofitted to just about any custom use or car. I get them for around 8 bucks each, spend around two hours refinishing one to like-new condition, and they sell all day long for $150 on up. I come home with about a half dozen at a clip and can usually count on a pretty nice return. Also, look under the dash for the optional courtesy lights. Again, not much weather gets to 'em and the resale is pretty nice as long as they clean up well. In the trunk there may be a light that comes on when you lift the lid. Many had a mercury switch that turned them on. THOSE are worth a nice chunk once they're refinished. Many had hood lights with retractable cords. Again, low investment, high return. Oil baths can do well. And the list goes on and on. I'm all about the low cost to high return without being a hassle to ship. But that's just me. ;)

The doors are the same but somewhere around 42 I think it it was, they ran a steel frame around the glass itslef instead of just having bare glass in the door so the "fuzzies" may be different.

Snag those wires from the Riviera. Check the trunk for a possible wire wheel there. Those WW would be good rollers for a project too.

Shit, I'd even take those white walls on those wheels! Tread looks decent. (Could actually use them myself right now.)

  21. if the price was right id be interested in the chrome trim on the tops of the quarters/and doors on that 49 chevy 4 door

  22. Drivers door bottom hinge. Not sure, havent got mine out since I don't have their replacements.... I know the door glass needs to be off the track. I'd need both front door full vent window frames with glass... I don't know if you're contemplating pulling them for me but if you do shoot me a PM and we'll talk. Just looked at your pic again, that passenger door looks a bit mangled!!!

Oh, the stuff's for my 60 ranchero. The pivots are busted on both vents so if I try to open them they just sorta fall off.

I could really use the front splash pan off that 49 as my car is missing it completely.

My best guess is they painted these all white for a monster truck show.. Then forgot to haul it to the show. Or it actually survived the show which I would heavily doubt. :)

OP.. There's some great stuff in that yard. I'd become a regular and make sure all the good stuff gets saved. Based on what everyone's posting in this thread, you could very easily save some vintage tin and make a buck in the process for your projects.

  25. Wonder if the yard owner / boss is a bit of a carnut ?

I usually try to go every other week or so, but I try to save as many useable parts as I can!!! It makes me sick to think these old cars will be a honda or toyota soon!!! They're not making most of these parts anymore, so one they're crushed they're gone forever!!!
