I love the swap meet, so that is where I spend my time. These are just pics of stuff I like or wanted to see or tought may be interesting to others. Tried to make the pictures bigger, gave up, here they are.......
In the above pics is my anti-socail pics of Camp HAMB.........For me, it's tough to talk to Hamb elite.........Mataconcepts....Bad Bob....all nice people. The show was "almost" as good as the swap. Had A Great Time!
Must admit, I've NEVER seen a full set of KINMONTS just layin' on the asphalt at a swap meet. Was there a price? I'm sittin' down! Great pics!! DD
I heard there were a few sets but I saw one and the old guy said he wanted 15K for them......I just laughed......
Those where the cheap ones that I saw,11,000$. But where do you find 2, yes two, laying on the asphalt.........the others....15,000......
By the time all was said and done, there were 4 sets laying on the ground! They ranged from 11500.00-15000.00! I have to admit, in about twenty five years going to the swap, that was the most I have ever seen at one time. The thing that floored me was no 16" Halibrand no holes to be seen or had anywhere! Makes the ones I just put my financial destiny on the line for seem just a bit more special!
Three full days at the swap, tired, blisters and sunburnt. had a ball, only briefly checked the cars, some crazy priced but Some real bargains, our score included a couple of Harmon collins distributors, a 59a short motor, guide lights, and for me the buy that made my day was a complete and retrimmed 32 coupe seat for $450 found as everyone was packing up thismorning.
The swap meet prices may be high but...... I got a an open drive conversion for $ 200, had Hot Rod Works directions , but Speedway box.... Stilco filter......$60.....to hide any filter on my quad 4 block, cool! Still the best swap meet!
This is the thread I've been waiting for. I couldnt care less about the show itself, the swap is where all the cool stuff is.
Why didn’t you just go? Hell ... id been driving for 4 hours by the time I rolled by your town / (I wish I lived that close )
THANK YOU! I'm more of a Swap Meet guy than car show guy, so seeing all these photos makes me want to get to LARS even more. I'm still trying to get someone that has walked the swap meet to tell me how large it is, walking time or acerage covered. If you have been to Hershey would it equal one of the fields there? Bob
The swap is huge. I have never been to Hershey, so I can't compare it. And even though it's big, it's not the biggest swap I have ever been to. The Pamona swaps of ten years ago were maybe twice the size. The thing at LARS is the quality of stuff you see. Almost anything you can think of vintage hot rod wise is there for the buying. Honestly, how many times these days do you see not only one set of Kinmonts available, but four? How about the 15-20 SCOTT blowers that I saw? A COUPLE of Frenzel types too! How about a booth (that I wished I snapped a picture of) that almost gave me magnesium poisoning as I walked past 'cause the Halibrands, Palimedes, and Americans were stacked literally 6 high and covering the whole booth space? Or even the guy that shows each year with three booths together and has any type of manifold, blower, and injection system the mind can imagine covering the ground? Next year, hop a plane and come and check this out!
i walked the swap area in about 1hr and a half..i have never been to hershey but i doubt the lars is bigger..the lars is about the parts you will see like kinmonts brake sets, all types of blowers and heads for flatheads..some stuff was over priced but a lot of great deals too..
I bought a milk crate of carbs that had 4 - Stromberg 97's, 3 - 48's, and 3 - 94's for $100. I also got a complete Studebaker R-1 blower set up with blower, brackets, manifold, and extra carb and pressure box for $300 .
Damn! I saw that blower and figured it was way too expensive for me! He was busy with someone else so I did get to ask.
Thanks! Finally an answer to my question! Hershey is a full days walk if you plan to look in every spot as you walk along. The big problem is the fact that it runs Tuesday to Saturday and you can never see it all since some guys arrive Friday, others arrived Tuesday and leave on Friday. There is a ton of **** everyone walks by, but you have to give it all a quick look as you walk by. Speed is also limited by the amount of friends you bump into. It is the car event of the year for me. Bob
An hour and a half? **** I think I spent close to that at some booths (like the one with all the original Magnesium wheels) Seriously I spent most of Friday and Saturday JUST doing the Swap Meet, and then another couple of hours on Sunday between looking a the shiny stuff up front.
even if you kept your eyes closed, you could not walk down all the rows of the swap meet in an hour and a half..... You could just walk to the far end and back however in that time.
An hour and a half?! Are you nuts? Or just Speedy Gonzalas?! I got there at 7:30am on Sat. (fashionably late, I know) and didn't finish the swap until noon... You are either m***ively focussed and a pro level runner, or have no friends!
Enjoyed the swap meet. Hard to do in one day! Bought some good "A" parts at some good prices. No time to look at the cars :- ( Sent from a hand crank phone
HA HA, you didn't spend much time looking or Conversing either! 4 1/2 hours, you miss all the hidden good stuff going that quick
