In 2008 I picked up an old front engine dragster from Billings Montana. The dragster was supposedly built in between 61 – 63 and campaigned in California for most of the 60’s. At some point the car ended up in Montana and the history gets sketchy. Nobody knows if it ran in the northwest but the buy I bought the car got it on trade for some money owed to him and that guy won the car in a card game from a 3rd cousin…………… you get the picture of the lack of history and information about the car.

The guy I bought the car from wouldn’t turn loose with name of who owed him and traded him the dragster. I took the car to a local car show in billings later that year and visited a ½ dozen old racers who thought they remembered the car but couldn’t be sure. From that point on I started to hunt down parts for the car for a period correct build assuming that I may not find the history of the car.

The first picture of the dragster is how it looked when I purchased the car. It had a SBC scabbed into the chassis for driving around the yard with the addition of various brackets and the moon tank. I have sent pictures to various HAMB members and others in an effort to identify the chassis but no Dice. My plan was and is to restore the car to its original build. If somebody recognizes the chassis that would be a good lead for me to follow.

<O:p</O:pThe chassis appears to be a home built similar to a Lynnwood but missing some of the tell tale signatures. The welding and fabrication was very nice with the exception of using an exhaust type tubing bender for the rear of the car. Car had a 3 point cage on top that was replaced at some point likely to comply with new rules. Lower tubes are beat flat from years of abuse but overall chassis is pretty solid from the dry weather in MT.

<O:p</O:pThe other night after a few libations a buddy and I thought that we would mock up an old hemi that I have and take some pics. I thought to clean up the car and give it one last shot of posting a few pics here to ID the car. In doing so I noticed the car was partially stripped and black primer was added to the cowl and rear aluminum tub at some time. It seems they focused on the areas where the name, class, number ect would have been painted. I stripped the primer and cleaned up the car. Luckily whoever stripped the car did bother to take the rear sheet metal off and the original colors were still behind the rear tires. The cowl was pretty stripped so I repainted the colors as best as I could tell where they were located originally. The blue stripe in the back was repainted at one point was at one time and it was about 2” wider in the far back.

<O:p</O:pThe car runs and old Banjo rear-end and the wheels are likely original to the car. Moon tank is not original but the mounts for a front tank are still in place. The hemi is sitting between the original motor plates and they are the same length as block. I don’t know if it ran a hemi or not but the motor would fit between the plates. Front end was slightly bent at one time but it appears to have been later in life. The name Second Run could be original or added later. There does not appear to be anything under the letters but I may strip one side to be sure. I have the original trailer for the car that tilts in the center and that may be my only link to identifying the car. It has it original MT trailer plate with various registration stickers that I hope to find names from the DMV. They have not been willing to help so I hope to call in a favor with Johnny Law to run the plates.

<O:p</O:pI have other pics of the car if interested and would appreciate any help with the history of the car. If any guys from Montana have a good connection with the DMV or police I can provide the plate information.

<O:p</O:pI’d like to restore this digger it to its original condition otherwise I plan to build it with vintage parts that I have scrounged up. I still need a few others parts so I don’t plan to hit this hard until next year. Thanks for the help.

I can help you out a little.
That car came out of Tulsa Oklahoma in 1993.
A friend of mine bought it when he lived there and he stored it in Lewistown at his Dad's when he moved to Seattle.
It was sold to someone locally in the late 90's.
He set the cage back on the car in these picture's but it had been cut off to be updated when he got it and it never got finished.
I am forwarding this thread to a few people that may be able to help fill in some more about your car.
    Good luck with your search.

    Tim
