I've never had any problems with deuce window regulators or any window regulators for that matter but I discovered the p***enger side window seems to be in a bind and won't roll down. Made for a hot ride home yesterday. Anyone ever experience a problem like this and have any idea or suggestions? HRP
I had the same issue on a friends 32 that I was fixing. The gears in the regulator were bad. PLUS they were almost welded to the housing. RUST had gotten to them. I had a difficut time even getting the window regulaor out of the door. We ended up putting power windows in his car. NOT what I would have choosen but it was his 32.
You just gonna have to tear into it and see what happened. Maybe some grease will help it.Bet you have fixed by the end of the week.
I removed all 6 of the screws and was able to drop the regulator with the gl*** attached and was able to get to the gears with lithium grease. I kept at it until the gl*** was down and put the screws back on place,,guess what,,now the window won't roll up. I guess the next thing is to remover the regulator and go from there! HRP
They sell new regulators or just the gears. They fit 1932 and 1933. They are nice. I bought a set (2) for about $135.00 Tom
HRP, Mac's Auto Parts should have a " Window Regulator Small Gear Parts Kit ", as well as the individual parts needed to rebuild. New repop regulators for the 28-31 are only $35.25 each, sorry I don't have the 32' Catalog handy. I like to use the Mobil-1 or the Valvoline FULL SYNTHETIC grease for most { not all }, of all my jobs like that. Get yourself a tub of it at the local auto parts store. Hope that helps, TR
Repair with the small gear kit, or buy the repop regulator. They are quite simple, went thru front and rears[same as model As] this winter. The spring is critical. Good luck. I know a guy by you that rebuilds door latches quite well, bet he can help!
The shaft that the crank rotates around and operates the gears gets worn and 'oblonged'. When going down it sits in the right spot, when you try to go up the weight and torque roll it away from the gears. The small parts kit won't help you unless they have like an extra large o.d. bushing so's you could drill where the shaft has worn an groove and make it oversize then bush down to the shaft size. But i doubt it, esp from macs' I would get the new regulators. The old ones are labor intensive to restore - time consuming to get things just perfect.
Maybe the repop parts are better now; but the ones I bought in the past were some of the most poorly manufactured mystery metal parts I ever came across. I have always been able to salvage good repair parts from other easier to find and cheap OEM regulators like 4dr rears etc. The small parts remained the same over the years.
I have a couple NOS regulators that came out of an old Ford dealership. most have surface rust but clean up well. problem I have is no books or reference numbers. so I have to match them up one on one
Problem solved! I decided Sunday was the day to try and fix the problem,, The actual window crank handle mechanism had been replaced with a aftermarket replacement,,problem with this part was the spring inside was broken and I believe it was made for a model A as the shoulder pin was too small for the window regulator and was moving around. I had a pair of reproduction window regulators and robbed the gear from one of them only to find out that the teeth were much larger than the original,,Model A so I removed the gear set it inside with the pin from the repro and every thing matched up and worked smoothly. The major part of the problem was that at one time or another the double coil spring had been removed and the arms had rotated 180 degrees so the arms were mounted in the car up instead of down. After about 2 1/2 hours I got it all figured out and now the window will roll up and down.,,finally! HRP
