Hey guys,I built a 1950 Chevy truck on an S10 frame and got the bug to build another car. I bought a 32 Ford 5 window project car today. I have a couple questions on the build. I need to buy a steering column. What fits good? I want tilt GM or should I buy a Flaming river one or a stock GM one?
Whats the normal amount of column drop do people use on a 32 coupe?

Any opinions are welcomed, I am new to this 32 Ford world. Let me know. Thanks P.S. This car has a vega box with a dropped front tube axle if that matters on the column choice.

I bought mine from Borgensen in CT . Thought it was a great price. It's just a steering column.

Limeworks makes a great original looking column that will work with your set up.

My opinion is that big fat tilt columns, aftermarket or O.E. look ****ing terrible in a hotrod. Well, you asked.

So do you guys use those clamp on turn signal mounts on the columns or what? i was hoping to get one that had the turn signal built into the column. Someone told me a while back that a early chevy van column fit. I really dont like the look of those clamp on turn signal things. Whats my options here?

Put the turn signal down past the column mount or under the dash out of site.I mounted one vertically under the dash,i can get to it and its out of sight. No fat columns!

I happen to like the old time look of clamp on turn signals. They are an easy way to get the brake lights to cancel out, when the signal is flashing. As for the late model Detroit columns....I personally think they look like ****. The best is finding an old clamp on, but even the new clamp ons look way better than a fat van column.

Here's a shot of the Hot Rod column from Lime Works in my coupe. It had a fat GM tilt column in it. I highly recommend them !!! Top notch product.

I almost forgot...I'm going to use an electronic turn signal from Speedway. Part #910-64070.
I guess they use them on motorcycles. You need a momentary on-off-on toggle switch.

One option for intergral turn signals is to use a Mid-50's Ford or GM column. I used a 54 Chevy car column in my 49 GMC pu...

It has self cancelling turn signals...but isn't a fat late model column.

Mid to late 50's Ford pickup columns are 1-1/2 column tube like early Ford, but have turn signals.

I still used a clamp on turn signal switch in my 32...because it's 40's style and I didn't want to use a 50's column. But with a later style build I would sure consider a 50's column.

Traditional build requires an era-correct column (and everything else for that matter). No Flaming nothing. A real-deal Ford column (or a Limeworks column) is all that's acceptable. And no steenkeeng billet or sports car steering wheel either.....or we'll find you and kick your ***!!!! :)

Here is a Chevy/GMC van tilt column with the shifter on the column in a 32 Ford roadster ( not mine )

Not big, bulky or fat looking in my opinion :D

The Limeworks column is beautiful but ... if you are 190/200 lbs or more ...
the tilt comes in real handy.

I put a chevy van column in a 5 window and found that i never used the tilt because the drop was right and no problems getting in or out.
