Hood ornaments Gazelle and viking prices

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Wayne mcMichael, Jun 7, 2011.

  1. I had a recent robbery at my house. Taken were a 1931 Chevrolet pristine Viking hood ornament and a 1932 Chrysler Gazelle museum quality hood ornament. The insurance company needs a value placed on them. Who should I contact ?
    Thanks Wayne

Contact the Nethercutt Collection in L. A. I'm sure they would know.

Not sure who this is directed at? But if it was meant for me, I could get into a lot of trouble spending a whole bunch of money at that site. Lots of cool pieces.

I buy and sell hood ornaments and have for about 25-30 years and in my opinion, an unpitted, original 1932 Chrysler 6 gazelle in EXCELLENT condition could bring $650.00 to $800.00. If it was the larger Imperial 8 gazelle, possibly $2,000.00 to $2,500.00 in EXCELLENT condition. The Viking cap would go for about $300.00 in the same EXCELLENT condition.

  15. Thank you. Is there a collectors book or other publication that shows prices ? YThe insurance company wants it in writing. They have given me less than 100 for each. I have a couple more months to appeal but it must be a publication.
    Thanks again.

The only thing I can think of that may help you out is to look up "completed listings" on Ebay and check to see if any sold. Then print those out for your insurance guy. No, there is no book of values for these that I know of. You can also go to Don Sommer's website to get prices.

  17. I bought on on eBay for my '33 Chrysler convertible about three months ago for $750. I had looked for several months and that's the going rate for nice ones.

Check the back of Hemming for services. There are a few ornament restorers that could probably give you an official quote for the insurance company.

    Good luck!
