you may want to find a local store in case you have a problem with it. not that you will but ive seen it happen.

  4. On this old Vintage stuff finding a rebuilt pump sometimes is harder than finding a local rebuilder and taking them your old one and having it fixed. Also some of the rebuilts have been on a shelf for years and a seal can be dried out before you get your hands on it.

once they start with the leaking out the hole i suppose driving it at all would be a risk. we have a car show about an hour away on saturday it would probably seize on the way there.

  6. Once upon a time,

There were no rebuilt units at parts houses, there were kits.
The mechanic at the shop or owners would rebuild these units with a kit.

You shouldn't drive it for sure until the pump is fixed, especially an hour drive. The weaping will eventually turn into a pour, literally as fast as you can put the coolant in it will pour out.

  8. The vent hole is only 1/4" at best. Water can't run out faster than you can pour it in from a milk jug or hose. If it's just weeping I say drive it and take water with ya and watch the temp gauge. For the pump to seize the bearings half to fail. So my advise is to look and be sure the water is p***ing out the hole in the housing and not the bearings. Bearings and seals are 2 different issues. """DO NOT DRIVE IT"""" if the bearings are going out. That could cost you a radeiator.

  9. 54, the e-bay listing appears correct but without one in front of me I won't go out on the limb are say for sure.

I would though suggest you disconnect the fan belts, and check for play in the bearing by trying to move the fan up and down and side to side holding the fan blades. This would be checking for RADIAL movement or play. Now to check for AXIAL movement, try and pull the fan blades in and out as you would be trying to pull the blades right from the front of the pump with the shaft intact. Any movement in either of these planes are NOT a good sign to ever be ignored. With the belt disconnected also turn the fan bledes real slow and get a feel for whats happening inside within the bearings as to wether or not they are worn and not just the seal. The seal for most parts can drip for a short while before causing any real harm. The bearing on the other hand will or can cost you a small fortune in repair if that fails while driving. If you see rust coming out of the hole and at the very front of the pump where the bearing is housed, that's not always a good sign.

You can also try Kantor for a pump, highly recommended but a little pricey than some. You can usually count on the job being done correctly though, best of luck, TR

www.arthurgouldrebuilders.com . Send yours in to get rebuilt. Bought one off of e-gay, it leaked worse that the one that was on it. Cheaper to have yours rebuilt than to take a chance on one thats been sitting on the shelf for who knows how many years and end up having to rebuild it anyway.
