I purchased two of these from a guy who was selling some of his p***ed away brothers auto parts at the Portland swap meet, He did not know anything about them, Said his brother worked at Bardahl oil co. in Seattle many years ago. Any help would be great. Thanks
Probably an accessory "top end oiler". You adjust the needle valve to control how much blue smoke you get, or something.
Upper cylinder lubricator. Fill with Marvel Mystery oil or equivalant, connect to Intake Manifold with a vacuum hose. Adjust mixture with spring loaded screw on top of device. Supposed to lube the upper cylinder (rings) and valves. Curly
Do people still use these units? I would think it would foul your plugs. Can you fill them with octane boost? I just installed a 6-71 blower on my little 327.
You should use what they used to call top oil if you are going to use one. bardahl still makes top oil as does STP and other companies. It is sold as a fuel additive. But could be introduced in this fashion as well. Standard, No one uses that type of oiler any more but if you were building a rod like a '50s car it would or could have been an accesory. Yes you could use it with your blower to introduce water or methanol as a coolent. If you can't get good gas or you are running enough boost to make it run hot cooling your charge with water or methanol is a common practice. I have been known to use a pump and spray 'em but that bottle in the fuel line may work just as well.
If nothing else it will have onlookers scratching their heads when they look at your motor. You could probably fill a book with some of the theories you will hear about what it is. It is pretty neat looking with that pint bottle and all. Don
The neat thing is that it doesnt allow liquid oil to enter the cylinder. Air comes in thru the top and the vacuum hose takes only vapor into the engine. I have ran a couple of these one on a VW Beetle and the other on my 409 to prevent spark knock ( used window washer fluid). Pretty cool for sure , companys still make them..
The methanol injection seems like a good idea for the supercharger, Any particular brand to use and ones to stay clear of ?
I buy mine at the track whatever they happen to be peddling. What you really want to watch on methanol is that it absorbs water, so you want to be sure for instance if you buy a 55 gallon drum that it is not one that has been laying open for quite a while. I have used VP and Sunoco with the same sucess. You are not using it for a fuel it is a coolant for your incomming charge. I don't know any more but they used to use methanol in widnshield washer fluid. When JC Whitnney sold water injection we used to use it in place of water.
An "inverse oiler" they had a special adapter that went under the carb to feed less oil under high vacuum, more under low vacuum. You want the oil going to the motor when pulling a long hill with the gas pedal to the floor, not when sitting idling.
