You need more traditional friends!!!!!!!!

  2. There are several things us rodders do that are not necessarily 'practical', so I do not understand what the big deal is about? But I guess I am the wrong one to ask since I have all kinds of goof ball stuff! If you want to do it you should just do it, at least you know your car will be different than your friends cars: )
Here is a pic of white tuck and roll on my fender wells. It not a daily driver, but these are fairly easy to remove, which you could do too.

I have always liked the upholstered inner fenders on customs.

    Having said that though...

They always screamed Trailer Queen at me.

Making them removable is the best idea for something you also plan to drive.

And while your at it add some angel hair on the back deck. That is always cool too on a 60's trad custom.

How about smoothing the inner fenders and upholstering the door jambs? Just kidding.:D

Upholstered wheel wells are traditional, but I don't remember smoothed door jambs being done back then.

Not all customs were detailed like that, but some were. Pinstriping and chrome on undercarriages was seen on some of the nicer cars, and the owners would pull a wheel off for display, or shove mirrors under the car so you could see the hard work they put into stuff you normally didn't see. Hot rods got this treatment more often than customs though.

Much of this kind of stuff was not done on daily driver cars though, just ones that "occasionally" saw the street. I just saw Don Tognotti's (sp) lavender T sell at Barrett Jackson and they said the original car was a "pusher". which meant it didn't run and had to be pushed into the show floor. Lots of cars that we drooled over at shows didn't even have pistons in the motors until the bigger shows started to demand they start and drive in under their own power.

All in good time my friend :)

For now here's a frame horn. I have since made a new insert with twice the amount of foam, so the pleats are more full and even. To the Original Poster, get after it!
Seems like this is only good for a trailer queen... Be a waste of time if you actually drove the car.
I drive the shit out of my car......the upholstered wheel wells clean up with soap and water

We got a lot of tar and gravel roads around here. It just dont seem practical to me. I may go have my valve covers and oil pan upolstered and see how they hold up. :p

x2 on gratitous upholstery...I love it! I'm covering my dash and window garnishes and anything else that doesn't move :D

I'd like to see upholstered door jams...that's a new one on me...I guess just dap landau top adhesive to hold it down? I'd be afraid it would come off.

edit-oh wait of course you make them lke door panels I guess and use clips. Hmmmmm!

We are on the same page!

I saw that you were doing this in your build thread. I think it looks goooood. I see you are doing your own so its not that expensive or time consuming.

I have a build thread but I have not updated in a while. I will be posting more pictures soon but I have decided to change all the suspension after I was done with the first setup. I had stock suspension that was bagged but now I am building a mustang II from scratch and doing a truck link rear. I will post a picture of my door jamb in etch primer though.

Smoothing and upholstering stuff that is out of the norm has always made me look a car over and over because I don't want to miss any details. Your car is perfect, l love it.

Oh hell, why not just skip the paint entirely and cover it all with tuck n roll? Instead of pin striping, you could try needle point! Gary

I say yes to both. I'm going as far as to do chrome covers for my door jams and tons of upholstery under the hood and in the wheel wells.

You are telling me. These are the people I have to hang out with to have car friends. I am actually 5'9" (likewho it matters) lol but spdey is like 7' tall or something . He gives me a ration of shit because I tell him that his aluminum slot wheels on his muscle car is like a belly button, everyone has one and it does nothing for you. Lol. If and when he hets mag slots I'll quit.

keep the pictures coming. Some really nice cars have been posted
