I'm doing a sbc/ th350 conversion on my 49 fleetline. Not sure if I need a short or long tail shaft trans or if it doesn't matter. I'm just worried about driveshaft length and angle. I'm using a s10 rear.
It doesn't matter. The short tail transmissions are usually easier to find, in case you need to replace it. But if you might swap in a 700R4 later, the long tail 350 is the same length as the 700, iirc.
In my 51 Canadian Pontiac ( same as Chevy) I used a long tailshaft ****** and the mounting pad was farther back than the crossmember - I used a Ch***is Eng crossmember kit and engine mounts. I had to do a bit of "adjustment and modification" to make it work. Basically I made a bracket to move the mount back a bit (it was too long ago to remember any dimensions).
