If you are an old fart like me REMEMBER the dam cell phone!!!!!!! Went to a local general fleamarket today, gave Debbie some walking around money, yes, I am a nice guy. Started buying non HAMB friendly items to flip and BUY HAMB friendly items. Spent all but $11.00 that a guy wouldn't accept for a $15.00 magazine. No cell phone, so I can't call the bank that is walking around there, somewere. Finally found her, and went back with my $15.00 only to find the item SOLD Pissed me off big time, seller did the old "I would have saved it if you asked." Well I got home and looked it up on that auction site and one is bid up to $85.00 with others listed for up to $350.00! How was your weekend at the swaps?
hindsight is 20/20 Bob, but I woulda given him the 11 bucks and asked him to put it away till I got back... ...but that doesn't make you feel a damn bit better, does it?
Sorry to hear about your luck, I did OK for once, got these for a little over $100, Browne & Sharpe, Lufkin, Starrett
This was mine, just got it home, the '26-'27 with doors and turtle deck is still sitting there until my buddy with a trailer gets over his cold.
The wife and I are hitting that yard sale that starts in Michigan and ends in Alabama around the 1st of August. We will be starting in Jamestown,TN and going South. Hope to find some good stuff during the trip. 48 Poncho
Yeah, what magazine was it? Not being a pro picker, I would like to know, as well as the website you refer to for auction, I ***ume eBay.
1930 FORTUNE Magazine, I didn't realize it when it was in my hand VOLUME ONE == NUMBER ONE. The thing I liked about it was the colorized photo of a 1929 Model A Fordor. I'll get over it. Years ago I did find a Vol. 1 #1 of National Dragster in the bottom of a box of magazines after I got home.
I saw a show on TV about that multi State yard sale one time, it is really something to see. I guess people look forward to it every year and put out some really cool stuff. Don
No swap meets, but hit the garage sales this weekend. I found one of those "I threw the ******* out and I want his **** gone" deals, a small plastic toolbox full of US-made large wrenches, a really nice pair of external snap ring pliers, some swivel sockets, Craftman screwdrivers, and a set of brand-new stud extractors. I asked what the pricing was, she said "take as much as you want for a buck" -- !! I took all of it...
Bob,Was that at the Trunk? Barb and I were there early. Did p*** a 55 Hot Rod Mag. other than that lots of junk. I know one mans junk! Mark B.
Those are the BEST! I remember the same type deal, I put together a pile of stuff, gal gets a pad and pencil starts scribbling info and prices, total was something stupid $10.00 or so. Paid her and started pile #2. Thanks for reminding me, guess the Swap Meet Gods and I are even now. Bob
So did we. That's what peaked our interest. Every Labor Day weekend we have a 30 mile yard sale that goes from one end of our county to the other and people come from everywhere. We are right on the route and traffic is unbelievable for a town this small those 4 days. I put out some antique toys 2 years ago and was sold out in an hour and a half. All kinds of things old and new. 48 Poncho
