This car was photographed in Lincoln, NE on the 2012 Street Rod Power Tour. I'm thinking that it is painted Corvette Atomic Orange. Opinions?
It looks close to the GM Sunset Orange Metalic, but there are so many similar colors its impossible to tell.
I painted an OT pickup this color and it was call sunset or sunburst pearl orange, the one I chose was from the Dayton dodge pickups or chargers, it was very difficult to spray because it is so translucent. But a very pretty color and it pops as your photo shows. Best of luck W9
I had an O/T 1971 Firebird Formula 400 with a paint colour called "Canyon Cooper". Looked very close the paint on the car in your picture. Beautiful car and colour. Good luck with your search.
that is the Street Rodder magazine Road Tour car built by Hollywood Hot Rods (I know cuz I did the headers and exhaust on the car). I am pretty sure that Scott at Hot Rods & Hobbies and Troy came up with a custom mix for that color from PPG paints
No offense, but I shake my head in disbelief every time I see a thread like this. Are you seriously trying to I.D. a specific paint color from a photo that's been uploaded to the internet and then downloaded to thousands of computers, all configured differently being viewed by people of varying color knowledge and eyesight capabilities????? If you're just looking for something similar that goes on easy and looks like a million bucks, check out House Of Colors Tangeglo Shimrin.
My hope was that someone knew the car and could give me a lead (and hotroddon did exactly that). The other replies are helpful in that they gave me some paint codes that are close and I can check out in real life to see what I like. FWIW, this is going on a 60 Buick. Thank you all!
I just saw a newer Mazda going own the road with an Orange similar to that too. All depends on whether my computer is showing the same Orange yours is!
Who died and made you Elvis ? ? ? did they just piss in your cereal ? Shit in your sand box ? Maybe you shook your head a little too much ? Within 1 hr that car had a positive Id. 20 mins before your head shaking started.
Good idea. Unfortunately, I don't have a legitimate "business need" as required by California since I'm not going to put a lien on the vehicle or repossess it. But, with a little bit of searching and the lead from hotroddon, I found some build pictures on Hot Rods and Hobbies web site: link Now it's just a matter of giving them a call and picking their brains.
I did not know you needed a business need to do that, most all sites have a small fee for tag research. Just an out of the box idea. Maybe he is a hamber and answer you directly. To ME, it looks like 68 corvette bronze.
I'll ID that color as what I wanted to paint my '40 ford until SRM chose it for their annual build. Now if I did it I would be copying them. My plan even included the same wheel choice as them . So, I do like it. But I am now planning a different color. It does look like GM Corvette "Sunset Orange" I had almost been set on for mine. That small chop they did on the top came out very nice too!
I agree about the color change thing. I had a copper colored car once Hot Rod wanted to do a shoot on it and bailed because it would never photograph good. Back in the day of 35 mm photography. Even with filters and such. It always wanted to go a mud brown. I would suspect that the car in the pic is even more orange than it looks in that pic. I would also guess that it is a custom mix, based off of one of the new car colors mentioned.
I believe it is registered to Source Interlink/Street Rodder, as I said above it is this years Road Tour car
I have seen the car in person, hell I had it in my shop for a week. That color in the pic is pretty damn close to the real thing.
we did the body work and paint to that car.. the color is a custom mix but i forget the name of it... not sure we still have the formula. look for the write up on it on the Street Rodder mag when we painted it. thanx
Well, it looks like you have figured out how to get the color in the photo. Good deal. I have noticed that recent Mitsubishis come in a similar color, "Sunset Orange Pearlescent". I like it a lot. Links: http://gtcarlot.com/colors/car/23653854.html http://all-mitsubishi.info/wp-content/uploads/Mitsubishi/Eclipse/17874339/Mitsubishi___Eclipse_Orange%20metallic.JPG It looks like the car in the photo has more gold and a finer metallic in the mix. I am sure the paint wasn't cheap.
___________________________ I also think HOUSE OF COLORS will do the job.--Very good call!! " Real hot rods don't have fenders "
looks like the paint on my old mustang, bright amber metallic better pic, ford paint code BG http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/707000-707999/707716_22_full.jpg
Positive I.D.?! Baloney. Now if you have the actual paint code then that's a positive I.D. Even then each batch is slightly different.
Looks to me alot like House of Kolor PBC 48 which is cinamon pearl. I'm also willing to bet that it'd be ALOT cheaper to buy than a newer factory color. Worth looking into....

Dupont has a Hot Hues color that are very close. You can go more or less Orange. Here's my Panhead painted about 6 years ago.
Over the years I have seen many different renditions of this color...back in the day, we used to just call it burnt orange...
