The only down side is the 50 bucks I got bet that I will drive it to the Stray Cat 500 may the 5th, I might have to pay off on that one...
Amazing. Just goes to show there are guys out there who would take on something most would pass on (me included) and bring it back from the dead. Skill is only part of that picture, the person also has to have the tenacity of a pit bull, like the guy on here who is saving that 46ish Ford and turning it into a coupe. My hat is off to you guys. Don
so, rear subframe rails need some attention as you can see, I just cut out a pattern section and run it down to our local heat and air place,(Teagues) they broke 8 feet in 18ga for cheap, exact match...
Gimme my dollars american please. Just kidding, keep your money I'm proud you saved this car if you make it or not. Love the wheels
so as we got to finding and cutting out rust the pile finally stopped growing....and this aint all of it...
Got the subrails under control, got the body blocks, going to use a roll of speedway spring liner to insulate the blocks from the metal, should be able to mount and square up the body this weekend.
No kidding! Reminds me of the one where the guy was talking about buying the car and hemming and hawing and a HAMBer posted a pic of it, as purchased. However, that guy didn't turn it into his build thread! HAHA.
Glad you were able to bring it back to life. Will the drive shaft offset shown in Post# 36 cause problems?
Well the down side of this is that when you title it it will have a salvage title, and when you sell it, no one will want to buy it, as everybody "knows" that you can't fix up a burner! (;-)
Once you think about it most hot rods are salvaged and it just doesnt say so on a title. Ive seen cars that had a salvaged title and you could never even tell the were wrecked, etc.
No, that offset is pretty common. U joints will take that offset up and will actually make them "work". Don
There is a little toung in cheek on this one fellows! (Note the wink) I own a body shop and I hear it all the time, "you can't fix that one" I tell them Thats what I do for a living, I fix em. You just don't know how.
The drive shaft off set is fine, the rotating shaft dosnt care if it spins left right or up and down as long as you maintain an agle sufficient enough to allow the universial joint to rotate correctly, The car was included in the home owners policy,(I think) the title was transferrd to the insurance company and then transferred to me. I already have a clean title and tag with no indication of total loss by fire, why? I dont know.
Thread hijack #3. I bought this car from my uncle as he works out of town and has no time to play. Three weeks to build for straykat 500. Coilovers, headlights, shifter be here tomorrow, super expensive double d joints, windshield safari parts and grille shell thursday, and finally radiator and bigger and faster headers on friday. Windshield frame not fitting right, pics tomorrow.
I've always been told, stay clear of burned out cars, because if they are to badly burned it effects the metal, going harder/softer or get more prone to rust attack, do to f@cking with Carbon balance ( some areas get to much and some to little). Does it mean that I'm flamming stupid? Pund intended ;-) Feel free to lekture me. I know what happens when you weld the same place over and over again, or the HAZ gets to hot from welding. Sorry for the thread Jack
