BLEW UP MY 236 SIX IN MY 62 CHEVY TRUCK LAST NIGHT ON THE WAY TO THE CRUISE IN SALEM OH. NOW I HAVE TO SWAP OUT A MOTOR BEFORE GOODGUYS COLOMBUS. I AM GOING TO YANK THE MOTOR FROM MY 60 ELCAMIO THAT RUNS GREAT, AND WAS GOING TO BE PULLED FOR A V8 ANYWAY. BOTH VEHICLES ARE STICKS. CAN ANY OF YOU GUYS SEE ANY POSSIBLE PROBLEMS I MAY HAVE? ARE THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS A PAIN IN THE ***?
Make sure the mounts on the replacement engine are where they need to be. They moved them around in different places on cars and trucks, and different years. If the engine is locked up, then it's a ***** to get the clutch and flywheel off so you can remove the bellhousing. The manifolds usually aren't a problem here in dry AZ, but might be fun in the rustbelt.
Your '62 mounts off the front corners, right? make sure the '60 has those corner mounts, as '60-62 car blocks usually didn't have these (El Camino is car based). Never had a problem with removing manifolds from the engine, but the studs where the exhaust pipe hooks up might be a problem like most any other engine....
Thanks for the help guys, but it turns out the headgasket between two cylinders was blown resulting in a serious lack of power. This will be a much easier fix and yes i am a big fan of kroil. P.s. The reason i use all caps is it is easy for some of the older members to read and they are a wealth of information when it comes to older cars. Thanks again guys.
That **** smells interesting when burned off by the Oxy torch. in the Northeast fancy penetrating oils just loosen your wallet
Good luck with the project, I am pulling a great running 250 six from my 66 c-10 but you are to far away to take advantage of that. KROIL rules!! Rock on bro. ~sololobo~
