If you were building a 32 Ford 5 window Bonneville style/ Rolling Bones style coupe .What would be the best drivetrain to use? Flatty ? or ?????

Well the choice of engine will be what ever is that persons favorite is . There will be many different answers on that one . My personal engine would be a 351w stroked to a 408 with a turbo . The rear would be a Ford 9" unless I have a quick change rear hidden someplace in my garage that I totally forgot about .
A Hemi would also be nice or a good Caddy engine .

So what are you thinking of using for a mill ?

Small Dodge or Desoto early hemi, triple 97s, T10 tranny, early Haldibrand quickie, pinched frame (no front frame horns) buggy springs, non dropped front axle, drilled.

Rolling Bones style precludes any engine first produced in the 60's for ME. No FEs no 409s no late model Cadillac's definitely no 289's 302's etc. etc. Just my personal biased opinion.

    I'm thinking a 49-53 Mercury flat motor or a 331 Caddy

In the '50 we liked the Olds over the Cad. We had several coupes with Olds and only one guy had a Cad

  12. Put a 235 in it.

I am dumb as a post I guess I donot know what a "Rolling Bones" style coupe is. I thought that the Rolling Bones was a shop.

If I was building a traditional rod I would choose a traditional drivetrain. If you are building a hot rod and you have chosen an era for the hot rod then you should use what was used in that era. If you are building a B-Ville coupe you use the engine that fits the class you plan on running so if it is a B-ville style coupe it would use the same drivetrain only made streetable.

As I said a Rolling Bones " style" car. If you haven't seen the car they built for Poteet you're missing out. Do yourself a favor and take a look.

Rest of the guys Thanks.....................You know what I was looking for obviously

I like the idea of the old hemi's. The nail head would be cool too.

With any antique engine, look at rebuild, available transmission or adapter, and speed part costs and availability. I'd base my choice on what I found as shopping for and rebuilding a specific engine/trans will run costs up and it would not be hard to spend $7000 +.

  26. Nailhead, Y Block, Flattie. For me there wouldn't be any other options.

I'm a Ford man so I would say a flatty or a Y-block.For those that don't know what a Rolling Bones style car is,here's a pic that explains the style.

What ever it is you build make sure you do your home work first because these rebuilds are expensive along with transmission adapters. But I would put a small Dodge Hemi.
