I have everything to build but I need some help with head and blower selection. I have some early 60's 461's?...what blower? 4-61..6-71?..8-71?
What fuel are you planning to use? What will you use the engine for? Neat looking kit, do you have pics of the crank too?
I'm with Jim...Even if you whack all the dome off those pistons...you will still have 10 + compression. Using small chamber heads ( think 10.5 with zero deck..) With 76 cc heads..8.9 --9.0. I am a tech inspector (former Nascar, current USAC ) and engine builder. Seen and tried most every combo,,,that is how I am sure of my info here. looks like some NOS Jahns pistons..nice rods.. Any pics of the crank ? Dave Dang Jim , gimme a chance to type will ya ? LOL !
Oh and this not going to be a street motor. Any clue how many cc's the domes are? I can't find anything in the box or on the pistons.
Especially on a strip motor i'd ***ume you need lower compression so you can utilize the boost atleast thats my understanding, depending on compression and overbore a lot of us, myself included would be intersted in the slugs
We talked about machining the piston to shave a few cc and originally it was going to be naturally aspirated..but after playing with the numbers...and to ****gys point...not enough power. Hence BLOWER
The green color says it has been nitrated.. 3 " stroke...for sure forged...any forging #s visible..?? Just trying to determine if is a stock crank or aftermarket.. Either way it looks like a bunch of good vintage parts.. Dave
Plenty of power without a blower unless you are going to haul a 4500 lb car... I would whack the pistons and run it on premium pump gas.. a 150 nitrous shot would give it enough to thrill you.. And you only pay for it when you need it.. not every time you start the engine (blowers take hp to turn ).. Unless you just like the look of a blower..and happen to have one laying around.. Dave
Blown alcohol strip only motor...yeah, I can see that. My guess on blower size would be 6-71. I hope it doesn't blow up right away, though. The knurled snout is interesting, wonder if it spun the damper in a previous life?
May have to just through it together to get some dims/cc's and rethink the build? It's hard to know what to do when I don't know what cc the domes take up and all.
This would work for a alcohol fuel engine. Not gas. You can run 11:1 pistons 6:71 blower 11% over with a enderle bug catcher with the right cam (roller 300 deg 112 lc .600 lift) would make a nice bonneville engine for d fuel cl*** 461 heads will work port polish stainless valves with a blower you dont have to spin the **** out of it 6500 rpm now go bonneville racing
