I was told they are late 30's spindles and from my understanding should bolt right onto the 56 F100 drum brakes. The backing plates are not lining up from the f100 drum brakes and I can certainly modify them if necessary but do not want to go crazy until someone gives me some insight. ???? Craig
Look like 36 or so spindles. Have to modify the backing plate to work with them, or I think there's an adapter from speedway that works.
Those are 35-36 spindles, it's hard to tell which year from the pics, both are different and one year only. 37 was the first year of the round back spindle that has the larger pattern at the backing plate.
belive it or not but the large adaptor is just a sbc piston ring and i belive the small one is a valve seat. the valve seat fits nice but the rings a bitch, and brittle. might give richard a call from early ford store. alittle pricey but thier parts are better, and made in the us i belive. attached is a photo of the #DLX2000 Adaptor Kit @$49.95 his email is Earlyv8@aol.com
Haven't seen those before, pretty nice. I always thought this would be a good way to go with F100 brakes to avoid having to relieve the inner bearings.
The early Ford store solution like nice, have you tried it? I read a thread on here earlier where someone had trouble with the speedway kit and it did not work that well.
I just called Michael at the Early Ford Store and he told me to dump the 36 spindles too much work because the depth is different on the 36 then 37 or later. Glad I am asking around!
Ok so I found another thread on the HAMB and the length of the spindle is 5 3/8" so these are definitely 36 spindles. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=557889
It all fits very well, that's how my roadster pick up is set up. The difference in the '36 spindles is that they should be shorter than the earlier types, but the same length as the later. The only "extra" work you should have to do is some grinding to radius the back side of the inner bearing race on the conversion bearing for the F-100 deal.
