Funny, Saw Scott riding around on a Hayabusa this evening. I was in high school when Scott was all over the magazines. I would stop into his shop (garage) every now and again and see what he was doing and he was always cool with a kid looking around. Meant a lot to me at the time. The fawn beige Chev II was soooo cool! I remember seeing the car what seemed like every week one summer at the old Hail & Hearty cruise-in in Kettering. What a sweetie of a car. Rubber mats, straight-six and laid right on the ground. As I recall it was for sale for $5,500. I think I even put a for sale sign in my little Cal-Look VW hoping to buy the Nova. Would love to see some pictures of some of the old cars.
I would like to see some of the old pix too! And a tech thread on how he flipped the spindle's on the Nova to drop it. Scott is legend!
Unless something has changed in the last year, I think the '55 is still in his garage. Not for sure tho.
Loved the Cheese whizz Chev back in the day, still like it now (except the wheels) I remember building it in model form.. few "improvements" of course lol!
Would you believe it had a 6 cylinder in it for awhile, the original builder had stuck a 6 cylinder in it back in the late 70s. Straight axle, tilt front end and a six which was a strange sight to see,Roger lives a couple blocks from me and some young lady ran the stop sign at the corner and nailed it in one quarter then the next time I seen it the car was black and the g***er look was gone.
i have heard (from a very reliable source) that 55 is still in scott's possession, and that the equally awesome black 57 is within spitting distance.
The '55 has been through some renovations: re-built motor, re-detailed ch***is and cleaning. The guy is legend with paint, body, TASTEFUL graphic's, clean, straight, subtle, functional rides for decades.
Is that Roger's old 57, the red one? Is roger still around? I haven't seen him since I worked at Main Auto on Linden Ave. around 83-84.
I think Roger still lives up the street from me,he has a Willys coupe but I have not seen it out this year or he running around on his Harley.
So you worked at the Linden ave Main auto parts store,I bought a few parts from there but when you worked there I was buying parts at the Centerville store since I worked at Voss Chevy.
and in reference to another of my threads, these cars (while equally opposite in finish level) were gorgeous, as well as "reachers", a certain be-bespectacled automotive writing legend used to say. too bad the 'power tour' has become a *********** of late models and locals trailered into the overnight stops.
There should be guidelines for cars allowed in. The retired guy in the new Z06 is not who the Power Tour was intended to draw.
Scott had a great eye for style and stance. I was born and raised in Louisville, and and in the late '70s and early '80s, we used to see a lot of the Southern Ohio guys at the shows. Their stuff was always bad***. Not bragging, but the areas around Louisville, Cincinnati, and Dayton used to have some incredible cars back in that era. I loved the Cheez-Whiz '55, but there's something about that black '57 that does it for me. The color, stance, and wheels are just perfect.
In the early 90's I run around Pigeion Forge at the Shades of the Past runs looking for anything with Sullivan graphics or one of his cars.I still remeber seeing the 55 for the first coming through town. The 57 had already changed hands the first time I seen it.Incrediable cars then and more so now because they held up,and no one tried to make them better. He had a hand in the Ohio look that ruled the top 25 for a while.Still have his to graphic for words buisness card.Louisville/Cincy/Dayton has always had there on distinct look reguardless of the current tastes.
Scott bought the 57 front "D" spokes from me years ago...They weren't polished when he got them. I first remember him from Clark County Fair grounds (Springfield,Ohio) Many, many years ago. He was in the Tubbed Nova (66/67?)....One of the first tubbed street cars. That car was definitely a trend setter!!!! Definitily a cool guy that has built some bad*** cars !!!! (and bikes!!!!)
Scott posted pics on facebook last week of the 55 and 57 loaded in a semi headed for the west coast. There gonna be on display for the Hot Rod magazine celebration, he still lives at same place and is still building cool stuff and is building a *****in 54 chevy right now...
this was a game changer for me.....my pro street valiant got a at***ude change shortly after seeing this... and was sporting some big polished 5's...I think I talked to a million people trying to get a pair of rears done but ended up meeting a bunch of cool people in the process.
