I was studying on what was wrong with it design wise. Like the fender wells are way to big, the rear needs to be slanted down some, but then I looks at the center section and I'm thinking opposites really do attract! But it is not attractive looking. Even worse is that 57 Chevy that looks like it got Beetlejuiced. Eeughuck.

A Bird in a Box. ive seen a few and just dont get it. that 57 chevy camaro kit is just as mind boggling. the idea seems to be more and more popular. vettes now have kits to make new ones look like the original too.

Yeah, they suck. But they beat my daily driver. Would be pretty cool to do that to a super coupe t bird, and just use it as a beater. Relaibility, good fuel milage, a little style and individuality, and add in the "I don't give a fuck what happens to it" factor, and you've got a decent ride for basic transportation.

What's not to get. The original (with steel fenders and quarters) showed up about ten years ago, and got a lot of ink for being an original idea that was well constructed.. So they started making 'glass kits to make money. Apparently enough people liked the kit for them to advertise and continue making them. They've been around for a while, so why the attention now?

I got one of those kits the other day. I got the instructions backwards and ended up putting it together backwards. I look like I'm doing 75 mph in reverse on the interstate now.

I think I'll leave it though, cause it REALLY makes me unique.

Its kinda a secret and the patent is pending, but I've also developed a kit to turn a '50 Ford into an '83 T-Bird.

I saw one in person this year. I thought the front and back looked cool. It was just those ugly ass mirrors, door handles, and roof that killed it. :D

Some years ago someone did a 53 Stude lowboy front and rear on a Firebird.
It't looked well proportioned and at the time it was different. Those others are
    truelly ugly.

Honestly, I don't think that's bad looking at all. Picture this green one with those gay mirrors shaved or replaced with something decent, door handles either shaved or replaced with '50 Ford units, and a couple other tweaks. Graft a '51 Victoria roof onto it from a rusted out parts car maybe? I could see it. Not as cool as a real shoebox, but I've seen some much uglier shit than this. I haven't seen the right example yet, but I think someone could do something cool with this.

some jerk ass has one here in Arizona. I see it every year at goodguys. pisses me off. I am pretty open to the whole "hey it is your car " thing but those look stupid and are not cool as far as I am concerned (and my opinion matters to everyone in the world, ever, so I friggin know)

That 57 Camaro looks way uglier than the Ford. In the Finshed Easy Rods gallery there's a black one with red wheels and WWs. Reminds me of the Delorean in Back To The Future II or III. Doesn't make it right though

Quick!!! Hide the women and children. That thing just ain't right. I ran up on one in the bay area a couple of months ago. It was painted a bright blue suede. Thank God my health insurance covers therapy.

Sweet O was looking for this sight...I just got a '94 thunderbird and was hoping to find a way to make it super cool! I think I'll paint it flat black too.

Maybe this is the one you are talking about. It lives here in Lake Havasu City and was a Lincoln Mark VIII (?) and he actually calls it a Kustom 51 Ford.

If you are going to do something like this to your daily driver, why don't you make it beautiful, like this El Camino, and bolt on some plastic parts to make it look like a Studebaker?

  21. Not to hyjack your thread, but any and all of those are waaaaaay better than a PT Cruiser.

I was at a show a few weeks ago and there were scads of PT cruisers and one guy was wanting different classes for them???!!

When they first came out, I'll admit to thinking they were kinda cool but now I can't stand the things.

I'd take one of those f'd up '51s anyday.

I think Bob Bleed has one of those.....

  25. I saw one to Rhinebeck a couple years ago that was a '93-ish Gran Prix with a '53 or '54 nose and tail grafted on. Plus one of those gay-ass fake convertible tops. It didn't quite look right, plus here is the modern new dashboard with a huge-ass '53 steering wheel in there - it looked even more weird.

I can handle the '50 nose and tail on the 89-up T-bird, but why not cut the top and all the sheetmetal off and put the entire '50 body on there?

A guy I know here has an idea to combine a '55 Merc hardtop with a '91 or so T-bird. That would be different. He's looking for stainless for the roof posts, so I've been keeping an eye out. Merc is rough and someone put a truck 6 and manual trans in it that is so long there's no room for a radiator in it.

I'm dumfounded. I can't believe people spend money on this. This pisses me off almost as much as the guys who by a Hyundai and stick a bi-plane wing on the trunk, ground effects, rims, and a 15k stereo. If you can't afford a nice car, save your money and get one instead of buying a cheap one and dropping tons of money into it. It all comes down to this - "You can't polish a turd"

well, you are right you CANT polish a turd. i agree these things are HORRIBLE to look at. BUT

(let me pause and put on my flack vest and helmet)

Two things most of us are overlooking here.

First is the fact that the guy is making money off complete dumbass's... gotta love that. any time a guy can turn about $550 worth of usless shit into something worth $3k to a customer, that gets my vote for business respect. i didnt say respect for what he was making, he could be selling rat turd candy bars to invalids for all i care... he's making a buck doing something he likes to do.

Second, and here is where this mcgilly gets interesting...

My dad has a friend he worked with YEARS ago at Kohler manufacturing (yea the terlit and urinal place in wisconsin) who built one of these abomination kit deals about 15 years ago or so. was one of those JC whitney corvette wagon kits. he drove it for about a year, and decided that Kustoms were his bag, sold the shitbox vette, and bought a 49 merc mordor which he has since finished...

if something that is relativly easy to assemble, and for someone who has never done JACK SHIT with a car before gets fun out of it, and gets the serious jones to own a REAL kustom,,, aint that REALY what this hobby is all about?

Food for thougt, altho im no fine writer such as the likes of the GMB's own Fathack :D i think you all can understand where i am comming from, if not agree with what i am saying

  29. a friend of mine built this about 5 yrs ago here in Lubbock, 95 Mark 8 with 57 DeSoto skin, it looked pretty good when done but he still needs to get some different wheels on it
