My 4-year-old son took a body pick hammer to my 65 Mustang door. Now the story, I was replacing the door skin on the 65 when the nature called. I was in the house for maybe 5/10 mins at the most. As I heading back into the garage, I hear a strange tic tic noise. The tic noise was my son-helping dad with the door; I just looked at him and had to laugh. He said daddy I put marks on the door for you; I do not think I could do that much damage in that short of time. I had a little talk with him about the marks and the uses of dad's tool. I still laugh about it to this dad, and I am just waiting until he gets a car. That is another story.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

P.S. He is now almost eight and he helps work on the same Mustang with ONE pick hammer mark in the middle of the door, I left it there for him to fix later.

2. Wait just a minute Mr. You fix paint and damage for a living don't you? That explains your level headed thinking about kids scratching cars. YOU can fix it. Just kidding:D

We had recently moved into a new house when I went outside one day and the neighbor's kids were washing my wife's daily drive with dirt. It didn't scratch it up too bad. The worst part was the kids catching hell from their father, when it should have been the mother catching it. They were maybe 3 and 5 years old and she'd open the door and turn them loose while she did whatever she did inside.

For every scratch one of my kids puts in my car it makes me think back to all the times my dad looked at me and shook his head. Accidents happen. I tell him to be careful, and if it happens again he will be helping fix it (even if he is only 6). But if i ever catch a kid intentionally scratching my car, i will beat the little ****er!

Got my OT '71 Camaro painted a couple years ago and the first show I took it to someone put a 4" scratch in the door right near the top. It went through the clear and no way to buff it out. I can't say it was intentional since I didn't see it happen, but sure looked too deep to have been done accidentally by a zipper or buckle.
Pretty upsetting to save for a paint job after owning the car over 35 years and then have it wrecked by someone, but not much to do once it's happened.

When I take my car somewhere, I only let 1 of the kids go with me at a time. If not then the always break something in my car or do something else incredibly stupid.

"Numbers matching Thunderbird"? Car doesn't sound too fun anyway. Better take it and hide it where ever it is all other rare cars go.

I painted my 62 Bel Air in April. Then at the end of May the car was parked in the driveway and a neighborhood kid came in the driveway on one of those razor scooters (young kid probably 5 or 6) and the he kinda tripped (musta been just learning how to ride the damn thing) and the handlebar made a nice deep scratch about 3 inches long across the bottom of the door... Normally I wouldnt have even cared but the paint was barely a month old. I talked with the kids parents and the dad was very understanding and offered to pay for the materials (I explained that I do the bodywork/paint myself)... The mom on the other hand was a serious B**** at first saying her husband wasnt home etc... Anyways all worked out okay in the end... If it was my own kid I like the advice of the other peoples approach of getting them involved with helping to fix it

I remember as a kid using the front fenders of dad's '32 as a slide. Me and all my friends. Back in those days Levi's had a little nub/****on type thing right in the tail bone area and it would leave a big scratch down the fender every time I'd slide down it. I couldn't understand why it was such a big deal to my dad, it was just so much fun! 30 years and 5 kids later, I'm a little more understanding. I'm just glad my kids like cars and want to be near them. If they scratch them, it's a good time to learn a little about fixing cars!

14. Some of you fellas just drive real nice cars the old cars and the late model cars. I can see butvhed paint being a real problem in a car that is nice, well unitl it gets ****ched.

I dumped the Ol' Man's bike over in the garage when I was about 4 or 5. After he threw a fit and explained to me that he wasn't mad at me (no wonder I am so confused) he pulled the tank and gave me a lesson on wet sanding. I am sure that before all was said and done I screwed it up worse that it already was, but I learned that shiney stuff doesn't happen by accident.

Always liked that cat.

16. When I was in high school I had a pair of milk goats for an Ag. project. I got them freshened which involved me having a couple if kids around for a bit. My uncle had purchased a brand new Ford, came by to show it off.

We went out to see one kid on the roof and the other on the trunk ****ing heads.

Ha, kids scratched my uncles car.

Firebird, you goon. John did a lot of work to make this car nice...paint too. I doubt that he's gonna make little Autumn and Amber do any body/paint work.

He'll fix the scratch. He's just *****in' 'cause he's on the home stretch of his roadster build, and other stuff keeps cropping up and taking his time...lol.

You'll get 'er, John. Gettin' close now.

My daughter was finger painting one fine day. She was 2 or 3 at the time. I came out and found her with her whole hand on the paper and putting hand prints all around the bottom of my recently mechanically finished 49 Buick. Yellow, green, blue red real hippie like. I came out and she started crying and sayin she was sorry and such. After the "Dad talk", I had her finish the job and cleared it.
Yup, kids ****, then they turn into teenagers and we do.

I just "found" a ball-point pen mural scrawled all over the back of my brown leather sofa. Now, I didn't do it. My wife didn't do it. Neither the rottie or the mastiff are SMART enough to do it. I doubt the kitten did it. So that leaves just one person. But do you think HE did it? "Noooooooo, Daddy. I don't know who did it." Must've been one of those midnight break-in home invasion scribblings we've been hearing so much about on the news. They don't hurt anyone or take anything. They just come in and draw on your ****, then leave.

When it comes to Kids, it's a love-hate relationship. They can be aggravating, but usually without realizing it.
