yes, but if not for the pickers, many things would get left at a tag sale to be scrapped later. I don't have an issue with what he is doing, some of it might get used by a hamber, well...the older pieces :)

Now, to the OP; go find some flatty, cad, and early hemi stuff :D

Intro? ...like what? Do you mean a bio on myself? I'm trying to gain knowledge about these parts I'm unfamiliar with.

I had an entire garage of old parts that I had to clean out from a guy who was a major hot rod/racing guy since the 50's. In the beginning, I had a few guys come who got first pickings and basically took a great deal of stuff (I came to find out later I was taken for a ride).

Since my knowledge of this hot rod stuff or how an engine even worked was minimal at best, ...I have since learned EVERYTHING I know from scouring the internet, cross referencing parts numbers etc to find out what all the things even were. I have already sold the vast majority of everything with a brand name on the box/part number on the piece however what I'm left with now are the items without these identifiers.

My goals are ...(1) to determine what an item is, (2) what application the item is used for, (3) what mfg/brand the item is so I can ULTIMATELY, (4) then research what the items are worth and (5) sell them for a fair price as compared to letting another person (like the first couple who took advantage of my situation) take me on a ride again. My plan was going to list stuff on eBay like I did with most of the other parts I sold.

That, my friends, is what I call an intro. :)

  7. Wow!

Now we definitely need some popcorn!

And my advice to the OP..... Start Googling!!!

Disagree totally...that is not an intro so much as it is a confession...he doesn't want to get screwed 'again' and wants trad car guys to fill him in on details and how much he "should" get for the stuff...

I really don't understand all the drama. I'm just being honest. Actually, immense googling is what brought me to this site.

I didn't know it was frowned upon to ask for help. Sorry. :(
^^^....Exactly. Thank you. :) I guess its wrong of me to want to try to find out as much as I can about a part so I can get a fair price?

The original guys took advantage of me. Its one thing to get a good deal however IMO, my ignorance resulted to near stealing in this instance. They got the most valuable things ie. cylinder heads, manifolds, carbs, NOS GM & Vintage stuff etc.
I simply & honestly explained my path here.

So, has anyone identified what that carb adapter thing is with the tubing running through it??

Sounds like, what I gather from all the experts that jumped right on identifing those sbc valve covers, that all the stuff is junk and he should just recycle it! I was curious about those parts also. Maybe we'll learn more in round two.

The funky carb base with the plumbing looks like an early turbocharger piece. The adapter goes between the carb and intake, and the turbo is plumbed between the two pipes. Yes, fuel goes thru the turbo, no you can't run much boost that way, and you can't run an intercooler.

On the drama thing....being a new guy, who's here just to identify parts so you can sell them (elsewhere) is considered to be in bad taste around here. This is a forum about traditional hot rods, we like to talk about how to build them, the history of them, what folks are doing with theirs, what's happening at events we attend, etc. There is a classified section, but this is not a commercial site.

Thank you for the info. Do you have any guesstimates as to what years this was relevant?
Understood. These parts were inherited. I still don't understand the resentment for a new member wanting to gain knowledge. I mean it almost seems like the guys who took advantage of me would be praised on here for getting a steal of a deal rather than scolded like myself for trying to learn something. I thought identifying vintage parts and their applications was discussing the history of hot rods?

Someone else PM'd me that there was a classified section but before initially posting I was not aware of that as I have never sold anything via a classified section before. My experiences have only been with eBay/Paypal but I have no exclusive means by which to sell these.

From the tone of some members it seems that this is a private party and I'm just not invited. ;) That's totally fine. It almost feels like I'm a victim of this new technology age of bullying. Its first grade all over again. LOL

I'm not forcing people to help me, I'm politely asking. I will humbly accept any additional info. Thanks.

The turbo thing would be from the 70s, maybe into the 80s. The early Buick turbo V6 cars (late 70s) had a similar design.

Yeah, it is kind of like a private party here. As the rules say, you're expected to lurk and just read the forum for a while (weeks? months?) before asking questions, so you can get a feel for how it works.

I didn't write the rules, I just try to live by them.

    Thanks again for the info.

I understand that I'm considered a "newbie"/outsider around here but I have read/frequented this forum for years, I just haven't joined until recently. From browsing the site, I gathered that people like traditional stuff and like to rib people but I didn't know new members are judged, tried and presumed guilty upon joining. :p

Is that your 57 Chevy as your pic? The 57 has always been my all time favorite ride. I previously had a bunch of NOS parts (bumpers, trim etc.) for the 57. I liked the car so much I even kept an extra pair of the hood rockets as display items.

EDIT: whoops...from the small pic it looked like a 57', I see now its a 55'. I guess its obvious I have a lot to learn.

yeah, that's my "57"...some where in Kansas on Drag Week last year. I'm getting it ready to go the HAMB drags in August, which is in Missouri.

  18. Where'd you get the "Make it look like a 55 kit"?

Easy, just shrink the picture small enough, and it is hard to tell what it is.

  20. I was in your corner until this post, then your manipulative whining pissed me off. I actually had more to say to you but I decided I would edit my post. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood.

I'm sorry if my honesty bothers/pisses you off but that's obviously your issue, not mine. Don't edit your post for my benefit.

I hope for you, that when you die, maybe your children/wife have better knowledge than myself when they have the burden/need to disperse all of "your" old hot rod parts etc.......Because if not, then I hope the same guys (friends supossedily) come over when your wife/children are in mourning and say "I'm so sorry for your loss, your dad was a great guy and we would love to help you with the burden of getting rid of his things", then for peanuts they take nearly every valuable part you had like they just did you a big favor. I bet you would be whining from your grave then.

I have read plenty of threads on H.A.M.B with people getting great deals on barn finds etc which is awesome however, when a relative dies and you get bamboozled out of RARE valuable items for only a tenth of their true value then in my opinion, you've been robbed! I guess human courtesy in death is asking too much. Some people just prefer to prey on the weak/sick/unhealthy.

A mod might as well close/delete this thread. It is evident that some people have a chip on their shoulders against new members/and or motives.

Thank you again to everyone who has tried to help. I appreciate it.

Just to follow up, I bought those extra wide valve covers a while ago.
Anyway, I finally found a Hilborn type scoop that matches them.

Here it is. I tried to "vintage" the pic the best I could...

    Found it, from Wikipedia:
To put "lipstick on a pig" is a rhetorical expression, used to convey the message that making superficial or cosmetic changes is a futile attempt to disguise the true nature of a product.

  27. Prom-dress on a goat?

To the OP no one dislikes you they are just trying to make you feel at home.

Can't tell you if they will collect oil yet - eng is still apart.

Strange parts for sure. The valve covers are definitely one of a kind. I like the look of them. They are more proportionate to the scoop than the cal custom v/c's I had.

So I'm pretending my motor is a big block? Yeah, so what? I'm removing the big block that currently resides in the engine compartment. I just can't justify feeding it. I'm not so crazy about dropping in a plain-jane looking SBC either, hence the "piss-everybody-off" valve covers...

I can't wait to hear all the car show experts tell me all about it, or listen to the purists whine.
    Should be entertaining...
