It's about 3 inches narrower than the A and the wishbone is longer, the spring is obviously mounted in front. The spring can be mounted on top of the axle if you get one that's the right width. The 40 axle has shorter ends than the A and when splitting the bones tire rubbing can be an issue.

If I were you.. I would use the 40 spindles& brakes and put that on an A axle ( you can split a 40 wishbone just cut the spring perches off ) A axles are cheap ( a stocker is worth about 50.00 )

I don't know what part of ok you are in but if you want a droped axle look up"joes speed shop - ponca city" can't go wrong with a okie joe axle ( he charges 200 to drop em )

I have done it a couple of times...since theforty spring is wider, you will need to split the stock A front cross member or make a new one. I actually used a front frame clip and added about 4 inches to keep the wheelbase stock.

On my latest project i`m using a complete `40 front end in a `29 ford roadster.

I`m not smart enough to bring up the thread, but I posted pics in a Progress report
on the A build ...probably my last thread started...jic someone wants to look.

Ive been thinking about doing this one too. While its not the usual route, it has certainly been done successfully, and it is not only a traditional approach, it has been done on some pretty impressive - and in some cases, historic - hot rods.
