There is a local transmission shop that I have used for many years. He is a streetrodder and I have never had a problem with his work. Richard's Transmissions 417 451 0211, located on 59 highway east of Neosho, about a half mile north of highway 86 intersecion.

Something about that does not compute....the 200-4R is the same length as a short tail TH350, the 700R4 is the same length as a long tail TH350.

Or else I've been hallucinating. As long as you measured it and it fits, you should be fine.

  3. What car is it going in? You maybe able to switch to a taller tire and get everything you want simple as that.

    Jumping up to a 70 or 75 series from a 50 or 60 series in a 15" wheel makes a huge difference.

If all your trying to do is cruise at 65 or 70 that may just do the trick.

A taller tire was my first thought also.

    That makes a big difference!!

Can't go much taller: 205x75x15 on a '53 Chevy. (And these tires are the same height as the 215x75s I just pulled off.)

I may be wrong and I'd have to measure to double-check. I thought the 200r was the same length but with the mount further back. If it's shorter then I'm getting into a new drive shaft and possible clearance issues. Looks like I'm gonna be on my back under my car again soon with a tape measure. Thanks for the heads up!

Oh, I can see going to him for older stuff like that, but when he rebuilt my '85 350 truck trans they gave it back to me filthy and treated me like ****.

Just look around, no-one on here builds hot rods anymore.:rolleyes: And almost all G-body rears are 7.5, same as your S-10 rear, and most of them had gears in the range you are looking for. Just pull the ring & pinion out of just about any G-body you can find, have it installed in your rear, (the one in the car, that is)and you will be set.

Don't want to sidetrack the thread, but is there any way around using the TV cable? I'm also looking at a winter project this fall to get overdrive in my car, but with sideways mounted Holleys on my tunnelram I'm not sure how I'll be able to use a TV cable and bracket.

To my knowledge you must use the cable. It must be at the exact position on the carburetor as it was originally designed and it must adjusted correctly. This information is for a 700r, but the 200r is a similiar process. http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/techinfo/700R4p1.html

You can get away without a cable if you run a 4L60E and put on a computer instead! so look for a long cable off a TPI engine or something.

there is a fail safe valve body available. you may have to use the TV cable but you can't burn your trans up!

Thanks. Guess I'll see how long a TV cable I can find, before I proceed any further.

Also you can connect the TV cable at the pedal, it doesn't need to be at the carb. Just make sure the action is as it should be.

I just did this swap over the winter in my model A. I love the 200-4r. As previosly stated I had to move the cross member back a little over 6" and changed my shifter. Hooked up my lock-up to a toggle switch and now I can cruise at 2500 @ 78 mph. It was the best money spent so far.

never thought of that!! good one squirrel! i think .. the cable has to be tight at idle, and only move 1 1/8" at WOT

  18. I just checked both my 200s and they are both universal so Chevy, BOP, Cadillac. Bowtie Overdrives have ha great site and alot of killer parts. They know their 200s and 700s.

That is some useful information. Thanks!

If I ever build a hot rod, I'll be sure to put a 4.11 in it, but this is a kustom and it's built for comfort, not speed.
