Help! Any upholstery pros out there? Looking for supply info

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4ever17, Jun 28, 2012.

  1. I am trying to do something on a project car with my interior. Not sure if it will work or not, but I want to do some inserts in my seats using houndstooth black and white material like what was used in the 69 Camaro and Porsche 911's in the 60's. I can not seem to locate where to buy the material. I can find some stuff on Ebay, but I am not sure that is automotive grade material, it looks more like dress maker type stuff.

Anyone ever work with it? Please help!

    Thanks

I have sewn alot of that stuff up,after a few minutes sewing you'll think you will puke or p*** out .the lines begin to look like a kaliedescope.pinwheel!i think you will find it at one of the forementioned supply houses.

  8. Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I won't get sick! Lol.....

How many yards should get if I am just doing the two bucket seat inserts and the rear bench inserts?

Also, How much difference is there in this material quality? Some web sites list it for as little as $12 per yard, some up to $20 and YearOne has it for $75 per yard. Should I stay away from anything specific?

    Thanks for all the help.

well the material is normally 54" wide,so not knowing your particular measurement,i can only help you guess.figure cushion are normall 22',front to back.2 front inserts,2 back.how wide insert?18" we'll say.3 will go across the roll.now backrest say are 30" tall.3 will go across the roll.you have went up the roll 52",but you have 2 inserts left to go.the longest one is 30",so you have to go up the roll 30".you will have one insert size piece left,.That makes 82 inches,apprx.2/13 yds.haven't looked at the samples but,try r\to get them to send samples.good chance there is only truly one manufacture.good luck

  10. Thanks!
