Get some paper towels to wipe the drool off your chin! Some may have seen this, it was new to me, 1958 NHRA Nationals in Detroit. The race cars are cool but the background stuff is enough to make a grown man cry! Beautiful footage of a day long gone. I was only 5 at the time. Hope it is permitted to put this here for your enjoyment. Just some awsome stuff!! Mike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqCm7YO2GOI&feature=player_detailpage
Just so you know: the YouTube ***le is incorrect - it's the 1959 NHRA Nationals that are featured. They had to hurry to get the brand new Detroit Dragway ready in time. BTW, my '53 Henry J g***er can be seen racing at the approx 19 minute mark.
Thanks, I did notice the mistake when the anouncer called it at the end. Cool video and even moreso that you own one of the featured cars. Mike
Chopped 66 Bug - Just an FYI ... This YouTube version of the "Ingenuity In Action - 1959 NHRA Detroit Nats" video has been posted here on the H.A.M.B. in 21 other threads ... and in some other form in at least 70 other Jalopy Journal Blogs and/or H.A.M.B. threads. It's always a good idea to perform a simple H.A.M.B. search using the YouTube video ID as the search criteria (e.g., "bqCm7YO2GOI") before starting a new thread here on the H.A.M.B.
Wow is that crazy cool to see or what?!? Unlike you I was a little more mature at 7 years old. Thanks for posting this, as it clearly depicts our drag racing heritage. I am in a hurry to get back to it and wipe the drool off of my chin!
