Hey guys been lurkin on this site for a while now all the way over in Australia. just want to know what people are doing for the rear end setup for geting low insted of notching the shit out of the frame.? i have a 28 model a sedan on original rails. i ask this cause i want to get it rego'd in australia an you cant be doin extream notches in my state. by the way i have searched alot and came up with alot on the underslung but its mainly on the front(which i dont want to do) lots of pics would be great...! thanks in advance fellas!!! Richo.
post some pics of your ride and of suspension. also, post some more info on yourself and ride(s) on Public Profile
In the old days when I had hair we used to use a 40 front spring and replace the rear crossmember with a flat one and bolt the 40 spring to the new flat crossmember
1928 model a sedan with nothing done to it just yet (stock body, suspension and rails) no photos lus far sorry what sort of ground clearnce did you get when you did that Fuzzy Knight? what about parallel springs with diff over frame? with the front im ganna go droped axel an that lookin at 6 inch of ground clearnce.
what about usung a model T rear cross member and putting a hump in the floor under the rear seat, or make your own raised cross member!
where at in Au are you? i sold my merc to a fellow hamber near Melbourne, and he has a prettly low sitting sedan also.
up mid north coast NSW. about 1600kms from melbourne haha yeah thats the sort of hight im looking at. do you know what sort of rear frame setup his got? my plans are going to be fenderless(cycle gaurds) looking at goin channeled 4" an chopped 5" low, clean and mean. as you can tell this will be my first hotrod build. i have built up a 308 LH torana before so i know my way around a car(an rust) i think to think i do anyway haha.
thanks slddnmatt. i PM'd him his a nice bloke, very helpfull an sent plenty of pics.. very very nice chassis he has but its notched 12" .... not sure what to do.
This is EXACTLY what I want to do. But you almost never see it done on Model A frames. Usually '32 rails. I want to do a very mild (2-3") sweep in the rear on my Model A frame. But, I still want the car to sit low. I'm surprised my people with A pickups don't do this for more bed room. Here's a post I had- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=687632&highlight=front+spring
can you post pictures of you model A's stance and put a discribsion of what you have done to get it low with out extream notchings an how low it is off the ground.. cheers
so it sounds like a small z (4 - 6 inches) with spring mounted on the back of the diff. that should get me fairly low. any people running spring behind diff on here with pics?
here's my tudor sedan... the front is a spring behind axle setup and the rear, while technically not "zeed", has a 15 degree pie cut taken out of the frame. cut out the pie, move the frame up to close the gap and then welded it back together. i personally prefer to keep the body on top of the frame.
sorta after pics an info one model a chassis mate. one question, how come no one does like 3-4" channels on 32 rails?
