Last week-end I traded my "bobber" project for a '57 Ranchero Longhorn straight up. 302/C4 combo, body's in pretty good condition except for the tailgate. 14" Appliance wheels and 3 pretty good tires. 80's valure interior in fair shape. Clear ***le. I think I got the better of the deal...
er, .... yes I never heard the term longhorn for those? and what about the grille gaurd? is that Ford acc'y piece? cool car, and .... actually "useful"
As I understand the "Longhorn" edition was only available in Texas. It included the Fairlane 500 trim, the grille guard and a Longhorn medalion for the interior.
You should be ashamed taking advantage of somebody like that. The engine bay may look like a snag full of granddaddies but once you get the wiring cleaned up, what a deal. Keep the bumper guard. Why can't I find deals like that?
Good trade. A friend of mine has one he bought new, was his push car for years. He painted it in 65' and thought the paint was too nice so he quit driving it. About 300 miles on it since then. It's going to be the next project after Bonneville! We'll see.
Correction... I just googled "1957 Ford Ranchero Longhorn Edition" and found that the Longhorn was available through out the entire U.S. and Canada. In Canada it was called the "Meteor Ranchero". Marketed in '57 & '58, not sure about '59 as I can't find anymore infomation. Also the madalion went on the tailgate not in the interior. B.t.w., I've got the medalion!
You came out a winner on that one. I've liked those since they first came out. I'd leave all the trim on it, lower it and put nice paint on it and call it good.
Yeah, I'm planning on keeping it pretty much stock. Aerostar front springs, drop the back and change the wheels. Of course the interior will have to go!
Never heard one called Longhorn. They all had the tailgate emblem. I have had several through the years.
gotta love any 57 ford just for the record the trim on yours is a custom 300 not the fairlane 500 the only difference being from the "checkmark"section to the rear yeah i think you got the better end of the deal
You won! if ya don't keep it 'stock' go this way:: http://youtu.be/tU75nuyXjF8 even tho the video say 292 Y block,i heard straight from the man it was a 390 Yblock??
Yeah..you scored. My hat is off to you . My dad turned me onto '57 Rancheros when I was a kid. His oldest cousin had one that dad mentions all the time, that was a pretty wild electric green metalflake, backed by a 351 C and a guy he knew that raced at Santa Fe Speedway had one that was primer black. He's wanted a '57 forever...long, long before everyone else wanted them. I remeber years ago, whenever we were at a show ,he would talk to guys asking if anyone knew where one was at, and they would always look at him like he was nuts for even considering paying money for one. But yeah..back to your car. Sorry. I had tobeat the old man back before he ruined my keyboard. Nice score man.
I like it a lot! This "Longhorn" thing has me intrigued as I found a "Longhorn" emblem out in the dessert one time and never new what it was. It is in excellent condition and has hung in my garage ever since. I never saw that grill guard before but it looks as if it mimmicks a Longhorn. Cool Truck, 1st Grumpy!
I'd say that was a great trade also, those rancheros have a great body style to them ! I think being conservative with the body and just lowering it is a good decision .
Cool ride... Reminds me of the 57 Ranch Wagon that I owned, many moons ago... I'd drool over either the Ranchero or the Ranch Wagon... V8 and Overdrive - the only way to go!
I am officially jealous! I have wanted a early Ranchero or El Camino for a long time. You definately got the better end of that deal! Plans for it? Mild 60's custom? Please tell me you are planning on keeping the grille guard?
