Just found this thread. Cool. A friend had a low-buck '40 tudor w/ an aluminum Buick engine. That was like 25 years ago. He was ahead of his time.
But, I'm surprised that nobody said anything about the front frame graft. Those Chevy "tophat" frames are different than most. The bottom part is heavy & easily welded/bolted to, but the top part is much thinner metal (I think). You're not supposed to weld to it. That is why you only find bolt on MII or 'Vette front suspensions for those things. I hope there are no problems with it down the road.
Other than that, I love the build. I've been screwin' around with cars since I could hold a wrench, but can't get my sons (20 & 22) to even work on the ones I built for them. Keep up the good work & keep influencing the younger ones in your area.

Wow. I just read through the whole thread (luckily I'm at work and have the time) and I'm amazed at what you've done with that car. Great work and your determination is impressive, I'm going to have our 2 younger boys read through this. They need to know that other kids actually go outside and do cool stuff, can't pry them from in front of the Xbox now.
Can't wait to see where you go with it next!

Hey did you ever replace the rear with a Posi? I was just wondering how it was holding up to the BBC. I just saw your video from the drag strip. Lookin good!

When I was 15, I bought a '41 Ply. Have pictures some where stored away, with my, at that time 5 year old younger brother. Sold it & bought '51 Willys Wagon, then a very low mileage '54 Packard, didn't like color, and the body shop I was working at Shot it, I did all the Body work, I just had turned 18 at that time. Then ran into a deal on a 4 dr. '48 Chev. that they made buy, local Chevy. Dealer, in order to get a perfect '48 Chevy. fastback, that was like brand new, and I mean brand new. It was the body shop where I worked at, Dad's Car.
I congraduate you on building this very different car. those rear Fenders where designed like that to get better Gas mileage. From '49 to '51 Nash build a 600 Airflyte, that was way ahead of its time. In 1950 they made to convert seats into beds. What a great idea for the Drive In Theators. Cruise On

from that rusted out old shell 4 years ago to a drag strip car is a great achievement. I wish I had the time and the talent you have now, even though you're only 21.

    Well done !

  25. I just found this post.....the punk 17 yr old kid now 21.....I like how you took "all the rules" and threw them out the window....hahaha......like Hot Rodding used to be. Keep it up, there is NO hope for you.....you are "infected with the Hot Rod Disease".....and you will no doubt stay "sick" for the rest of you life, my friend.
    How refreshing

I really love this car! It's so cool.

80% Hot Rod, 20% 'shiner car. If that aint a good look, I dont know what is!!

I cant see why you keep blowing engines? The way you treat that car, you should blow you rear end, ones per mill.
This is not an insult, just me that dont get why.

That is Real Hot Rodding! Creative thing, good plan and driver the snout out of it.

  27. I love this car! Sounds so gnarly:cool:

  28. Not my kinda car...... but it sounds great and my hat's off to you. I followed this thread from the begining. It was/is a great build. Impressive for anybody, and as lots have said, all the more so for a teenager (now 21)
Thanks for taking the time to post the build, pictures and video. Look forward to seeing more.
