Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by coololdcars, Jul 2, 2012.

  1. OK, I'VE ACQUIRED A 39 HUDSON 2 DOOR THATS BEGGIN' TO BE SLAPPED DOWN. I'M A CHEAP ******* SO I'M GONNA PUT A GM SUBFRAME IN IT. I HAD A 60 FORD PU WITH ONE AND IT WAS GREAT!! I WAS JUST WONDERING HOW MUCH TO EXPECT THE NOSE TO SETTLE AFTER I PUT THE PONTIAC 400 AND 400 TURBO IN IT. SET IT UP LEVEL TO START WITH THE ENGINE TRANS OUT???. i WANT HER DOWN THERE GOOD. I'M NOT GONNA BAG IT ,SO IT NEEDS A LITTLE GROUND CLEARANCE.:D

  3. I can't imagine any GM subframe except maybe an S10 that isn't going to be way, way too wide for that car. I have a '42 and a '48 and neither is particularly wide.

I will have to clip this '42 if I build it or maybe reframe it, it's sat since the 50s and there's rot holes in the front crossmember, so I'll be curious to see what you do use and how it works out.

If you use the S10, if it's too high there's plenty of drop spindles available.

a GM subframe sits about 6 inches off the ground with the stock springs with a full load on it.

I know alot of guys nix them but I used a Volare K member in my 37 Terraplane, should be alot like the 39 frame. I also used a K-car R&P steering, rides nice and handles great.
