  2. What ever you do don't go flatblack with red wheels it's not right, cuz 68' is not in the 50's i would be interested in seeing it done in a bellflower style...

This is the wrong board for that car, the only thing we can tell you is what you can use the parts from it for on another project. If it's a six cyl, check out fordsix.com, or any mustang forum on google.

If you want to make any friends here put a straight axle in the front and make a "g***er" type car out of it.:D

My advice - if it runs and drives good, drive it! Tinker with it some, the guys on fordsix.com can help get some more power out of it. Put disc brakes on the front, 75-80 Granadas(or Monarchs or Versailles or Mavericks) are good donors. If it needs body work take a shop cl*** and learn some body skills. While this car isn't really appropriate for this forum, you can still use it to learn all the basic skills you need to build a traditional hot rod or custom, plus with careful planning you can drive it while you work on it. Just don't get a wild hair and trade it for a hulk that doesn't run just because it's older - unless it's a 32 3 window or something:D

PLEASE don't go flat black with red wheels! YUCK!! Take it from a gal who has had a '68 since she was 16 years old... if you can't do it right, then don't do it at all!!!

If it is a 6cyl car it'll have 4 lugs instead of 5. If that's the case, I'd spend 500 bones and upgrade the front suspension to the aftermarket Shelby stuff. Bigger sway bar, new poly bushings.... Then I'd take a 5 lug 8inch or 9inch (yes I know it's like 8.8) rearend and swap them out. That way the suspension will be able to handle an 8cyl motor instead of the six. If it's already an 8cyl, I'd just save my money and repaint it and get the interior done in something pleasant to the eye yet easy on my pocket book.

My first build at 15 was a 67 Mustang with a 6cyl..........I upgraded one bit at a time until I had the whole front and rear done. Was gonna stuff a HO302 motor with FI in until I bought a 68 8cyl car..............then I stuffed!:D

Perhaps you could put a '50 Merc body on it and slam it. That would suit your HAMB name. Don't ask me how you're going to fit a big old Merc body on a little old uni-body secretary car. That's the cards you've been dealt, now figure it out yourself.

Check out the Vintage Mustang site. They have a good forum, I go there fairly often. I have a 67 with a 302 and a 68 with a 289. I'd like to do my 67 as though it was 67, mag wheels, tall narrow tires, and a laced panel paintjob. With these cars, you can go many directions... straight axle g***er, 70's street freak, resto-mod with 18" wheels, or even street/strip. I love my two, but even though, i'm really wanting a early 60's T-bird or Riv.

    Bullitt...
Never looked at Bullitts car as a muscle car...more of a Grand Touring machine.

Tires just a notch over stock, those killer wheels, clean body with that low key Green paint...stock ride height or close to it.
She looked light and nimble despite the FE big block.

That would be my route...no tacky "muscle car" styling...just pure road car.
Might even look better on a notchback!
No console...just twin black buckets and a chrome Hurst stick.
A lightweight, carbed 302 and a 5 speed with cheater pipes ahead of the rear wheels for that Ford music...

My first car was a 68 Stang...I still get goosebumps thinking of the sound of the pipes as I wound down thru the valley...

    Just rent the movie.

Trans-Am style, like pictured above. Fatter sway bars, slightly stiffer springs dropped down about two inches, good brakes, a set of smoked grey five spokes, subframe connectors to help stiffen the ch***is. Then check out some old pics of the real race cars and do a similar paint scheme.

There's this cool old dude around my area here that made a SLICK 60's custom out of a '68 El Camino. Skinny whites, chrome reverse wheels, gold metallic paint, slammed, nosed, decked, shaved...very smooth, and not trying to be something it's not. ANY car can be customized, but it needs to be done with taste. Look at the Mustang as a real challenge, to boldly go where no man has gone before. A 50 Merc is easy. You can compare different cars and builders and put together how it will look and flow before you ever pick up a wrench. No such luck with a custom Stang.

I saw a red 68 a while back with reversed astros and thin-line whitewalls on them, it looked really good. Not musclecar, but more of a cruiser.

I'm really loving the look, what brand and sizes are your wheels and tires? do you remember the backspacing? Do they rub anywhere? Your's looks about the same ride height as my 67, so i'm sure it's about the same for what wheels fit.

The tires are either Kuhmo's or Sumitono's....I forget what the hell i put on there...Not sure of the back-spacing but the tires are 265/55/15....The fenders and quarters are flaired ever so slightly....Hard to tell unless you sight the length of the car like you would do with a piece of lumber....the rear wheel houses were split and made wider also....And they don't rub at all.....

The car was built by http://www.maecomotorsport.com/

They could help you out if you have more questions

There is a flat black Mustang in my neighborhood. Flat Black primer. To add insult to injury he is running AutoZone chrome plastic hubcaps w/ spinners.

I vote for the G***er idea.

I photoshopped my 67 as a g***er, I thought about building something like that, but don't have the resources. I think it would be something to do with a wasted one, and there's plenty of wasted mustangs laying around...
