I am in need of a auto transporter to haul a 64 Chevy C10 from Bandera, TX to Galveston. The truck runs but can't be driven that far, I don't have a way to transport it myself and this thing is dirt cheap. Anyone have the contact information for a dependable but low cost transporter? Low Cost being the most important factor.
less than a 300 mile trip. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12 If low cost is the most important factor then borrow a buddies truck then Rent a U haul trailer for a long day and do it yourself. Hauling rates are about a buck a mile and up and if you think they are much less than that at $ 3.50 to $ 4.00 per gallon, then might want to think again and borrow a truck, rent a trailer and go get it.
You could flat tow it with a tow bar. FYI - When I had mine moved, it barely fit in the transport truck.
Call my friend Kathy at Rebel Yell Transport...Near Houston 972-264-3977 Tell her Bernie from Maryland gave you the number
Why would you think that somebody who has invested in the equipment that it takes to do this job well, and is willing to use their time to do it, should do it for "low cost" just because..... A) the vehicle you want transported isn't worth much .... and/or.... B) you are tight on money and can't afford to pay them what their services are worth? You want cheap...get a buddy to do it who doesn't care if he recovers costs or not or who is willing to trade out with you on some other basis. Ray
Its nice to see that some of the members are as bitterly unhelpful as usual. To those who have actually offered constructive comments - Many Thanks
I know BenD will be in texas this month, hes bringing me a motor from Missouri. Give him a shout, he may be able to work something out, so far he's been great to deal with! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=635739
I am extremely generous and helpful ..........to my friends....and strangers I encounter who are in a genuine difficult spot.......I've gone the "extra mile" many times with neither the expectation of, nor request for, compensation in those circumstances. But, on the other hand, I DO NOT expect others, who I do not even know, to accommodate my 'wants', as opposed to my 'needs', most especially when my 'wants' exceed my capacity to stand on my own two feet. I suppose there is nothing wrong with asking if this job you need done fits in with someone's already existing plans............and can be done for less than a dedicated trip. Perhaps my sensitivity at the moment comes from offering to haul a car on a return trip, door to door for 1000 miles, which would also require an extra night on the road, for a forum member...and being told, "well, we don't want to pay more for the trip than we paid for the car" (a very cheap OT vehicle). I was trying to arrange a trip that didn't cost either party full freight by splitting trip costs. Thing is, it doesn't matter if it's a $50k Lexus or a $600 vehicle with 'potential'.....it weighs what it weighs and costs what it costs to transport. If a person can't afford the freight, maybe they can't afford the car/truck in the first place. It's called "transaction costs". Ray
Hnstray, you've been called worse names than "bitterly unhelpful " I for one agree with your post. The price of fuel, insurance these days, asking for cheap transport is not going to happen.
Become a HAMB Alliance Member for starters .... That is is " giving back " ...... Don't ask someone else to haul something you cannot haul yourself - period Unless you want to pay the price of someone else doing what you will not do by posting on a public forum instead of asking a neighbor or a friend .... I used Intercity Lines recently to ship a truck across the country. Their price for enclosed transport beat a lot of other's price for an open trailer. The driver was courteous and professional. I'd use them again in a heartbeat. For a short haul like yours though you might do better with a u-haul truck & trailer.
Exotic Car Transport 800-766-8797. They have moved several cars for me. Fast, reliable, and economical.
Gentleman as usual it has been a real pleasure, however I have received the information I was after from those that choose to be helpful. And to those folks I offer my deepest thanks and gratitude To the rest that did what they do best, you can go back to searching for Obamas real birth certificate and trying to convince Glenn Beck to run for president. <O God Bless American and All Her Differences And A Happy Fouth of July
I completely agree with Hnstray, of course he is an Obama supporter. He wants something for nothing, jsut sit back & let the gov't or in this case a transporter give him something for nothing or at least very little.
