Just wondering if anyone here knows the whereabouts of my old 51 Chopped Merc. A friend of mine bought it from me about 11 years ago and instantly sold it to someone in Colorado. I know they all look the same. Chopped 4 inches, gutters left on,50 rear window. Functional vent windows. Was in gray primer. Had the stock seats in the original upholstery both front and rear. No headliner. Pr of Dummy spots. I installed 52 Lincoln tail lights (like the Hirohata Merc), 50 grille cavity and hood, 52 Desoto front bumper/stock rear. And both bumpers were painted red inside. Had a 54 Pontiac grille in it when it left here. Motor was Tuned-port Chevy with a 700r4 ******. The front suspension had the stock spindles in that I reversed and used a pair of bolt steering arms from Fatman. Had 5 or 6 inch blocks in the rear, and I think I may have cd the frame in the rear. Also the front hubs were redrilled to fit Caddy wheels (so the sombrero caps would clip on as stock). Id love to have this car back, but probably not possible. But just to know that it still out cruising would be great news. Figure if it was still out there , someone here should know of it. Thanks, Baron Here it is the day it left
Ive spent hours trying to figure out which car this may have turned into. I cant ebven find a posibility.
Kinda true.Yours definitely stands out.In a good way. It's a great looking car.Good luck with the search.Although it's going to be tough if even Mr. Mercury doesn't know anything about your car.
That car is so right the way it sits that I can only see someone finishing it out with nice paint and a nice interior. It's either floating around finished out or sitting in someone's garage waiting it's turn I'd think.
Was it this one? I have no eye for Mercs, just trying to help. http://carnut.com/cgi-bin/10/image.pl?/show/10/ggdes/des425.jpg
Nope, that's not it one. That is a 49-50(very nice 49-50). 51's had the extended quarter panels. I appreciate all the responses. I would think the tail light treatment would be the defining feature. I have not seen another one with the 52 Lincoln tail lights other than the Hirohata Merc (and a few of its clones).
i wish it was at my house. but, then, you wouldnt be getting it back. sorry no help here. awsome car. bttt.
Will keep an eye out for it, seems like that car was would probably survive since it was done so well.
Awesome Merc! I got my 53 Ford convertible custom back after 31 years, so keep the faith and keep looking! And yes, I got my car back through the HAMB!
