If you pre register for a car show and something happens at the last minute (Or week or so even) Why is it that you can't get a refund? This really Irks me. I pre registered for GG's Columbus with ALL intentions of going, but hurt my back this week and no way I could drive or ride to the show, let alone walk around it. I looked at my packet and it says---Refund/Transfer requests must be submitted two weeks prior to the event with return of official event confirmation. IS THIS FAIR??? You would think they would at least maybe let you transfer it to another event! Don't mean to poormouth, but I live on a small pension and SS and I'm sure I could use $45.00 more than GG's
Because generally most of it goes to a charity. Do you really want to take it away from them? Besides, it's not their fault someone can't make it and I'm sure the registration form said "No Refunds"!
**** happens, that's what you agreed to when you bought the thing. Don't want to risk it, then try to buy the p*** at the gate and pay more for it.
Good Guys are all about the $$$. That being said that is why it's cheaper to pre register. The organizers need the start up money, ( your money has been spent) you are gambling that you will go and the weather will be good. It also gives them a heads up as to count.
I'm not saying it's the right thing to do Gary, but you have to look at it from the promoters point of view.....if bad weather were to set in, and 40% of the participants cancel at the last minute....they would lose their *** as their money is already spent. I am not saying it's right, and I am far from, being a promoter of Goodguys events, but that's the way it is everywhere. Weather can make or break a car event, and no promoter can control the weather. If you think the $45 is a loss....the reason I don;t Vend at Goodguys is the cost....to vend new items (like my car movie and drag DVD's) the cheapest space is $1250 + $50 for electric. I don't vend there because if the weather turns to **** and no one (or few) attend....I could lose my *** in money spent. I'll see you at ***berland, I am Carls' buddy that vends the movies, I met you at Jalopyrama last year
If I pre-register for a car show and don't make it... I'll either contact them and see if they can mail me my packet (in case there are dash plaques or shirts) or I'll just eat it.
Their rules you ,I guess read them before registering so how can it not be fair. No fault of theirs you couldn't make it.
Thats why I very rarely preregister. Life happens. I have missed many shows over the years for countless reasons, when I wanted to go. So now, its worth the extra $10-15 bucks to pay at the gate, because I'm already there.
Well- you could always sell/give your entry to a buddy. I gave my GG Del Mar entry to a friend when **** came up.
Thats why I never pre-register...I rather be out the extra 10 bucks than loose 45...the weather can change real fast around here...
I host car shows... and every time I do, I have this little twinge of guilt. Why? Because how do you charge a guy to bring his car to your show when his car is the draw in the first place? It makes no sense to me. Even so, my shows would cost me thousands of dollars to host if I didn't charge them. Hell, the Revolution loses money as it is. It's this weird conundrum where you do what ya gotta do I guess... In any case, I totally understand no refunds on pre-registrations. Pre-Regs are cheaper than at event registrations because they help promoters predict turnout. And they use that money for initial event costs. If you pre-reg and take the cheaper registration, you gotta do so realizing that you are doing it at a risk. If something happens and you can't go, you are out. Price you pay I guess... In any case, I think small car shows rule.
**** it up ****ercup! Imagine how a promoter feels when it rains One big example is Billettproof in WA it **** rained all day Less than half the cars showed and Allen took it on the chin with grace....We all need to a little more humble if it is out of control of the show!
Same idea as hotels. Sometimes I'll pre pay months in advance to get a killer deal. No refunds. It's a gamble.
It's like stock car racing. They charge more to get into the pits than to sit in the stands and watch. That's in addition to the entry fee. Like one racer said, it's like charging the Clown to get into the Circus.
Well,I sent an e-mail to GG's and ask if they could at least send me the commemorative Cap & poster that is to be given at the Columbus show. I'll see how that goes.
I always pre-register for shows. One reason is to save the $$$ and another is it's usually less of a h***le getting in the gate if you've already got your stuff. Last spring we found out my Mother had stage 4 ovarian cancer and I ended up missing about 4 shows I'd prepaid for. Didn't give the money a second thought, and I also have a fixed income. I gave p***es to two of the shows to a friend who wouldn't have been able to go otherwise. One of the shows I had to miss was the Road Rocket Rumble, gave that reg away too but thankfully Naomi was able to get my room cancelled. I've recently found out that I'm gonna have to miss one of the shows I pre-paid for this year as well. Again, I'm hitting up a couple of buds to see if they can use it. It ****s when you can't make it, but as John Lennon said "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans" BTW Larry hope your back gets better...
X2 I pay at the door their are way to many things that can interfer with my plans of going to a car show.
I pre-registered for the Mooneyes Xmas Show but my wife and I couldn't make it due to family matters. I drove 50 miles, one way, to give my registration card to a friend that was going. Most events, however, I pay at the gate.
I believe Good Guys is very fair with the participants. You are allowed to take someone with you at no extra charge when you show your car. Last year, I showed various cars at three consecutive shows as a non-member, and Good Guys sent me a free complimentary one year membership card which en***led me to significant discounts for the next twelve months. When I showed my '56 DelRay, I had my son and his girlfriend tag along, Good Guys didn't charge extra for them. Goodguys understands we build/buy the show cars, pay the gas to get it to the fairgrounds, and pay an entry fee. I believe they give us some slack.
