I love this picture of the guy looking at his car. It hangs on the wall right outside of my office and I look at it every day. The first time I saw it, I instantly understood it and felt connected to it. You guys work with your hands so you probably understand it too.

Last week, I was working in the shop with one of my guys and as we finished installing the cowling on the Waco project, we both became that guy in the picture.

We just stood there with our arms at our sides taking it in.

Neither of us said a word. Nothing needed to be said.

  3. The best part of creating something is the satisfaction that you get when it done and you can just sit back and gaze at it.The feeling is something that can't be easily put into words but I'm pretty sure we've all been there.

I've now spent what must be about 100 odd hours staring at a damn 60's Coleman cooler box. Its my first airbrush & mini-gun project (ex rattle can junkie:eek:) and after being inspired by various threads here, in many ways i'm jumping in the deep end and going to town on it. I'm a sick puppy at times and actually enjoy all this multiple taping and fiddly crap.
I have now come up with about a dozen designs, all nicely chalked out, taped 3 of them out (wasting £££'s worth of expensive fine line tape) and i'm still staring at the damn thing in primer!!

What shits me to tears is that after all this time I think i'm going with the original idea,I think:confused:

Hahaha my next project is a 50's bumper/dodgem car shell. I'll be there for years before i get the "feel good factor stares".

Oh well keeps me off the streets as my dear old Mum says

It was in the window of a little framing shop in Hemet. I didn't buy it at the time and when I went back a couple of days later, it was gone.
A couple of months later, I unwrapped it on Christmas morning. My wife had noticed my reaction to it.
    She's a keeper!

Good story as to where it ended up. Must be some kind of Karma you've earned. ;)

That's the problem with a lot of builds. The builders don't stand back and take in what they have built.

I understand completely, but I'd have a smoke and a beer in my hands.

I just now came in from the shop to cool off and clean up. I did that very thing before locking up and shutting off the lights. Nothing like that maiden voyage after a engine @ trans swap when everything works as it should.;)

Oh, jeez, ya got me going for a tissue.

But then the second shoe falls... and the dammed thing springs a leak after the first test run!

  15. Stepping back for a good look has cost me so much extra time and effort on my build I should be upset. Except that every change that has been made because of those reflective moments has been totally positive.

With the first beer comes inspiration
Then it takes a 2nd beer to bring out the persperation
By the 3rd beer comes urination
And I guess the 4th beer is when you just stand there and look at it

Gets you thinking this. I blew my engine before the Hayride last year and had 6 weeks to find a replacement (easier said than done) and get it fitted. Not going wasn't an option.
I hadn't done an engine swap in years, had no motor and not enough tools. Long story short i found a good motor, my best mate helped me do the swap and i got the car there, towing a camper trailer, for the first time ever towing anything:)
After getting a cool sticker and being asked to park "in the show" with all the flash Airstreams etc we set up camp. We'd sorted the car, done the cruise there in one piece, got cool stickers (sorry but big deal for me/us) in the place and made the biggest run out the club has ever done.
My buddy called me over from a distance and we looked back at our little camp, set within the coolest place in the UK and just stared, grinning like fools. Didn't say much for a good while, just stood back and took it all in and what we'd achieved. We then blew any cool we had by jumped up and down like a pair of 10 year old girls, a few non homo hugs and called it mission completed. I opened the Jim Beam and life was good for 3 days.

    Good times, great memories:cool:

Jeez, Beautiful! You're a lucky man in your chosen profession. Interesting placement on the red and green "nav" lights. Thank you. DD

I undertand that pic completely. In fact we have a term for that exact moment, among some close friends. "Burchin' it". In memory & honor of a friend (nick named Burch, RIP) who would do just as that pic shows. After any task, be it working on a vehicle, mowing' the grass, waxing his classic '59, damn near anything. He'd step back, usually with a Winston & a Schafer's, and take it in for a while. Kinda lettin' it sink in I suppose. We used to chuckle and rib him about it some. He was a classic, and missed still. Anytime you step back and take in what you just did or accomplished, or getting ready to accomplish, you're "Burchin' it" in these parts. :D
