Does anyone have any pictures of old famous or well recognized drag cars from the past that are just sitting the weeds or in barns, some may just be rotting away.

We've all ran across an old drag car at one time or another with the lettered up paint faded sitting in a junkyard or in a field or in a shed.
Not just any old car that was said to be a drag car but the one's that were the real hitters in their day.

If you have pictures lets see them.

  2. ttt on this, should get some nice pictures

If there were, they wouldn't be there for long.
There's sort of this big movement to restore these old cars. Some of us have heard about it.

That's crazy to see something like that in that condition and the car sitting next to it.

But...I guess there was a time before the nostalgia craze when the old cars like that were just considered to be outdated and obsolete

still, hard to believe that not many still exist. There are some still out there, just looking at pages and photos on the HAMB, I find myself asking "wonder where it is now?" many times.

This was in 1980-1981, and I don't have any pics, but there was an orange 1940 - 1941 Studebaker coupe that was in a backyard in Canton ILL. It must have been a pretty nice car at on time, since it had a black, (i think), ****on tuck interior. It sat for several years with the drivers door open. Don't know what happened to it, but hopefully someone saved it.

The previous owner should be drop kicked in the neck for even considering that.

Here's one we found in New Hampshire after it had sat outside for 20 years. It was the "Mystery Willys" . It was quite popular back in the 60's at the Dover track and in Connecticut.[IMG]

That's a shame to see that Willys going to waste... makes you wonder what runs through peoples minds when they do that.
Some idiots like the attention they get when they turn down buyers that could possibly save it.

Yeah the best explanation I've heard is that with the cars, they're the crazy guy with the cars that would be worth a fortune if they fixed them up. Without them they're just the crazy guy.

There used to be an old G***er here in Illinois that sat on a farm in a pig lot, it had Halibrands on it and all.
The hogs would lay right up next to it in the shade, the wheels were burried about 4" in pig duke.
The owner actually got his rocks off by telling people it wasn't for sale.
Someone told me he died a few years ago and the car was sold and restored
