I've replaced the cables but not the retractors. Wasn't hard. Order new cables from Danchuck and instructions should come with them. Actually pretty simple to do. When you pull out on the cable make sure yor have something to keep the retractor positioned for the new cable.

When I did this car I replaced the cables and the retractors. The biggest part of the problem was getting enough room to work up in the wheel well. As I recall I went from the inside out - that is I hooked the cable first to the retractor and then to the gate. That was 10 years ago ....

its not too difficult. the hardest part is feeding it thru the hook inside the upper portion of the quarter panel. its a tight squeeze in there, and you have to have a lot of patience and long arms. not impossible tho. where in SoCal are you? email or contact us directly if you need further direction with this. we run a nomad - only parts business. www.madmooks.com

Can I tape a wire to the old cable at the back of the car, pull the wire through by pulling with the cable towards the retractor, then tape that wire to the new cable and pull the new cable towards the rear of the car....by pulling the other end of the wire from the rear of the car? Or is the install of the new cable more of a "feed" than a pull situation? Thank you

theres a hook shaped piece of metal at the top of inside quarter panel that you have to feed the cable thru, so i dont think that method will work.
